Hello Hello!!

U2 Retrospective @ 02:19 pm

I'm currently feelin: curious curious
I'm currently hearin: U2 - City Of Blinding Lights

I've been working on a U2 Retrospective recently. I want to thank everyone who participated in my poll; it helped a lot to have your imput. :)

Anyway, I have enough songs for 4 full CDs, with a little room left over on the first and last albums. Tell me if you think I'm missing anything.

Disc One - In The Beginning
“I Will Follow”
“Out of Control"
"Stories For Boys"
“The Electric Co."
"Trash, Trampoline, and the Party Girl"
"Things To Make and Do"
“Stranger In A Strange Land”
"11 O’Clock Tick Tock"
"The Three Sunrises"
"Two Hearts Beat As One"
“New Year’s Day”
"Sunday Bloody Sunday"
“Drowning Man”

Disc Two - Classic Motif
“Pride (In The Name of Love)”
"A Sort of Homecoming"
“The Unforgettable Fire”
“Running To Stand Still”
“One Tree Hill"
“With Or Without You”
“I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For
"Where The Street Have No Name”
"Hallelujah Here She Comes"
"Dancing Barefoot"
“God, Pt. 2”
"All I Want Is You"
"Silver and Gold"

Disc Three - Revisionism
“Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses”
“Until The End of the World”
“Mysterious Ways”
“Stay (Faraway, So Close!)”
“The First Time”
"Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me"
"Your Blue Room"
“If God Will Send His Angels”
“Staring at the Sun”

Disc Four - There and Back Again
"The Sweetest Thing (Single Mix)"
"The Ground Beneath Her Feet"
“Walk On”
“Beautiful Day”
“When I Look At The World”
"Electrical Storm (William Orbit Mix)
"The Hands That Built America"
“City of Blinding Lights”
“Miracle Drug”
“Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own”
“Original of the Species”
"Fast Cars"
"Are You Gonna Wait Forever"

I'm not sure on the order of the songs yet, but that's what I want to put on them. I might add some more, but the 2nd and 3rd CDs are pretty much stuffed to compacity. But, at least to me, those are the best of the best and the most essential U2 tracks. And I'd like everyone to note how "Discothèque" is conspicuously missing. 0:)

Anyway, I'd like your feedback (heh...Feedback...I'm such a dork). What do my fellow U2 fans think?

I think your missing some of the really early stuff like Street Missions.

I've done this a few times, Mainly for when I'm out travelling and dont want to carry all the albums.

See if you can made a definitive 1CD U2 Best of. Its almost impossbible todo. But quite fun.

Yeah, I'm definitely lacking on the early, early stuff. I don't have copies on my computer. But I'll make a note of that, since I have room on the first CD. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know. Thanks again. :)

It sounds like you have everything, although I would have included 'Gone' on Disc Three, and some of the earlier material, as mentioned by arcmorality.

sorry, and also 'Angel of Harlem', possibly.

Thank you for including "Silver and Gold" (studio version I hope) and "Ground Beneath Her Feet."

I would add "Red Hill Mining Town," "In God's Country," and if possible, the "I've Got You Under My Skin" Bono/Sinatra single. Also "New Day" with Bono and Wyclef Jean.

I'd love a copy. :)

Yeah, definitely the studio version. And "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" is one of my top 5 favorite U2 songs ever (and I *LOVE* the book by Salman Rushdie). I might exchange "One Tree Hill" for "Red Hill Mining Town", but not sure yet. I could see myself just putting *all* of The Joshua Tree on there, but I'm trying to resist.

I have the Wyclef Jean song, but (very sadly) not "I've Got You Under My Skin" with Sinatra. Though I'm not sure if I want collaborations or not...

The Sinatra song's worth getting, even though it's not really U2.

Oh, I definitely want to get a copy, simply because Frank + Bono = bliss for the heart of this Irish Jersey Girl. But I just can't seem to find a copy. :(

And I don't really trust EBay. I know that's probably dumb, but I don't like it. *shrugs*

Very good list! I would find it excruciating to compile a list like that. No "The Fly" on disc 3 though????

oooooooooooooooooooh Fly. :)

Achtung Baby and The Joshua Tree are the hardest to narrow down. Part of me just wants to pull all of both albums on there, but I'm trying to resist that impulse. I love "The Fly" (how could you not?), but I love the others more, you know?

I guess these really come down to who makes them. It's a debate that could go on between fans forever. But ain't nothing wrong with that. ;)

At least you included "Mercy", which is quite possibly the most transcendant and just beautiful songs i have heard. Without-a-doubt the best B-side i have ever heard, as Bono said it was. I wish they had kept it on the album.

I can't agree with you more. "Mercy" is just breath-takingly beautiful, lyrically and musically. I don't think I'll ever understand why it's not on the final album. Is it officially on a single *as* a B-Side, b/c I've only come across it floating around online.
