As touching as it was, some people should never sing Beatles songs.

EDIT: Since they're two of my favorite men.

Yeah

I agree, John Lennon penned songs are in a class all their own, and maybe next time someone decides to cover or perform one they will have singers who actually know the words and can match them with the beat of the song. Not that Bono and Stevie didn't. Or Aleisha Keys for that matter.

Agreed.

Man, that was awful. And I'm a HUGE Slash/Guns N' Roses/Velvet Revolver fan...and it was just...awful. I'm actually a fan of just about everyone involved in the song except the jackass in the cowboy hat, but...it was just a disaster. Oh well.

absolutely terrible, but didn't everyone see it coming? there were just way too many people involved. bono's part (as small as it was) was great, though.

That song is a classic (and only Rufus Wainwright has ever been close to repeating its greatness) and I knew before it happened it was a train wreck in waiting. Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys weren't even singing in the same key as everyone else...I dunno what words Steven Tyler was singing, but they weren't even remotely correct. I lav me some Billie Joe Armstrong, but you're totally correct when you say he did not do justice to that song....Its a real shame that Alison Krauss got sick and couldn't sing cos she would have been great. I do have to admit I probably will d/l it anyways just to donate to the cause.

Wow...sounds interesting. Does anyone know where I can download/view a video of this? (I don't watch much TV, and didn't even realize the Grammys was last night.)

C'mon, Bono, Stevie Wonder AND Brian Wilson? That's musical royality right there. Although Brian looked kinda...fried as he does always. It wasn't that horrible thought it looked like Bono wasn't really 'all there' last night...maybe doing SYCMIOYO was very emotional?

Ah, that photo is loverly. Both men get yummier with age. And yeah, the song was pretty awful. Most of the singers either got the words wrong or tried too hard to put their stamp on the vocals. I kept yelling "just sing the damn song the way it's supposed to be sung!!!!!". Weiland, Bono, Brian Wilson, and BJ were the only decent performers.

But anyone, oh emm gee, that picture just made my day!

Eeee! I'm too busy squeeing over that picture to worry about how bad the song was. ;) I agree, though. *shudders* I think I'll just look at the picture. Whee!
