U2 Karaoke? @ 11:25 am

rockingthemike:
I'm currently feelin: amused amused
I'm currently hearin: Miami- U2

So, to have something non-ticket related for a moment... ;) Has anyone sung U2 at Karaoke bars/nights? I attempted "Vertigo" and "One" at a friends birthday bash over the weekend. "Vertigo" is a helluva lot harder to sing than you think. Well, after multiple tequila sunrises that is. ;)

Anyone else have U2 karaoke stories?

Alas, I have none...yet. But I am totally planning on singing something on Thursday when my friends and I go celebrate our Irishness (or symbolic Irishness as the case may be) in honor of St. Patrick's Day. I'm not sure what songs the pubs in NYC will have, but I'm gonna go for something upbeat. :)

Meep! That's probably the only U2 song I honestly hate. :)

I was thinking "Desire" or "WTSHNN" or "Pride" or even "Beautiful Day"...something anthemic, you know?

I did staring at the sun and by the time I finished all the ohs (kind of moaning) at the end, all the guys in the bar had to pick their jaws up off the floor. And the DJ managed to stutter out and big thanks to me for singing so passionately. It was pretty funny.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! I would have laughed so hard if I was there just to see the looks on their faces. It must've been PRICELESS.

i have never sang U2 at Karaoke, but i work at a karaoke bar, and I'm the host. So I've heard MANY horribly renditions of Sunday Bloody Sunday and Pride. Oh, and Beautiful Day is the worst song to hear a bunch of drunk redo. It's awful. My job rocks, but hearing people ruin U2....just plain sad. :) yet, i love laughing at how bad they are, and how good they THINK they are.

I've done a few. However I will never sing Stay in Karaoke ever again. I butchered that thing!! :( One time some guys got up there to sing With our Without You. They had trouble at the end and asked for help in singing it. Everyone in the bar that knew me yelled for me to get up there and help them so i did. It was so fun!! I'm good at singing One and Beautiful day though.

Oh yeah...I did Angele of Harlem at the U2 Convention in Ontario, CA. And that was with the live U2 tribute band The Joshua Tree. Fun times!!! :D

I've done "Beautiful Day" (good, except for the low notes in the first verse), "Elevation" (wicked fun), "Angel of Harlem" (the karaoke track had the words wrong), and "Where the Streets Have No Name" (fun, but I always want to throw in the big "WHOAAAAAA OHH OHHHHH"s from the live versions.

Not done karaoke, but I've just gotten a guitar and I'm hoping to learn some U2 songs when I learn to play it *g*

if you are just starting out, if you understand tabs, you can learn Miracle Drug. It was the first song I learned on the guitar, its SO EASY. Just listen to the song while trying to figure it out and you'll get it.

Most U2 songs are difficult to get a good sound out one guitar with. There are a few I'm sure you can learn though. Angel of Harlem is pretty good. Chords in the verse are C F C F repeated. Desire is another relatively easy one, although it might take a fair bit of practise to get those changes quick enough.
