Hello Hello!!

March 14th, 2005

Care to enlighten me? @ 11:57 pm

intotheheart:
I'm currently feelin: curious curious

Although I'm an avid U2 fan, I haven't really branched out beyond their albums and occasionally singles/EPs, mostly because I was just... unaware of them, I guess. Being born late has its downsides. But, I can still do research! So...

I would love it if everyone would recommend their favourite b-side or rare song, or even if they'd care to enlighten me on the bootlegs floating around out there :) The only one I really know about is Salome, and that's just barely.

Thanks!!

I have Lady With the Spinning Head (since I own the One single), but I haven't heard Fast Cars yet (although I've heard lots of good things ABOUT it!) I'll make sure to try and find it :)

Does "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" count as a B-Side? Because there was a video for it. But that's one my my absolute favorite songs, period. The book is amazing, too.

Other favorite B-Sides:
The Three Sunrises
A Celebration
Love Comes Tumbling
Hallelujah Here She Comes
Dancing Barefoot
Summer Rain
Mercy

== I'm always and forever, totally in love with some of the stuff from the Salome/Axtung Beibi studio boots.. the track workups that became WGRYWH, particularly, and one scary, dark little track sometimes titled "Back Mask U2". DAMN.

== The newly turned up track "Mercy"... just.. gah.. wow..

== Any of several live cuts of the song they wrote for Roy Orbison, "she's a mystery to me"

== Kansas City, Elevation 2001 - an absolutely hair-raising segue of "When I Look At The World" from "Bad".. Edge alternates the riffs, circling them one around the other, it's breathtaking and beautiful and so. achingly. sad. all at once.

== A particular version of Knockin' On Heaven's Door, from 3/21/1985 Chicago.
(He forgets the words, and says so... and who cares, his voice was at one of its peaks at that time...)

Do you have any of these files that you'd be willing to share? I've never managed to come across any of these songs, and I'd love to heare them.

You should get the One single, if you haven't already got it. Three wonderful B-sides on that disc (Lady With The Spinning Head, and their covers of Satellite Of Love and Night & Day). I would also particularly recommend the If God Will Send His Angels single (it comes with Slow Dancing and Two Shots Of Happy, One Shot Of Sad), and Salomé off the Even Better Than The Real Thing single. Hmm, and check out Deep In The Heart if you can find it (80s singles are harder to come by). The double-format Stay single is also fantastic, but really hard to find and not cheap!

You know Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me, right?  (It'd be a crime if you missed that one because it wasn't on an album.)

The One single is actually one of the few I own! (I also have the Sweetest Thing, Popmart EP and Walk On single). Thanks for your other suggestions!

Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me is awesome. It's probably the first U2 song I heard on radio/TV (all the others were from my dad's albums, and since I was young, it was until Batman Forever came out that I realized that "U2" wasn't an old band)
