The veteran rockers of U2 warmed up for the Grammys Tuesday by winning three trophies at the Orville H. Gibson Guitar Awards.
The group beat out Linkin Park, Blink-182, Weezer, Nickelback and five others to nab Best Guitar Band. Guitarist the Edge defeated R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood, Aerosmith's Joe Perry, Lenny Kravitz and others in the Best Rock Guitarist category. And bassist Adam Clayton blanked System of a Down's Shavo Odadjian, Radiohead's Colin Greenwood and Dave Matthews Band's Stefan Lessard for the Best Bassist award.
In other categories, Pete Yorn edged out Michelle Branch, John Mayer and surprise nominee Madonna to win the Les Paul Horizon award (a.k.a. Most Promising Up and Coming Guitarist award), Dave Matthews won Best Acoustic Guitarist (Male), India.Arie took Best Acoustic Guitarist (Female), Brad Paisley took Best Country Guitarist (Male), Gillian Welch won Best Country Guitarist (Female), Keb' Mo' won Best Blues Guitarist and Acoustic Alchemy won Best Jazz Guitarist.
