I'm currently hearin: The Killers-All These That I Have Done

Two posts in one day, I know, I know. But hey, tour fun! Anyone heard any rumors about opening bands for the fall North American dates? I would die in a good way if the Killers were carried over from the European dates. And in a bad way if the Kings of Leon were. Eeeech.

I'd love it if the Killers opened.

Franz live is a fun show, so I wouldn't be too hurt if they opened.

No no no no no no!

No killers or snow patrol or keane! They suck so much! They're so yellowbelly... they're boring... I guess that the singer of Keane was like the teachers favourite... and Keane is a band like: Oh! don't hit the drum too hard! or else mommy will be angry...

It's not even U2ish, except if you only like WOWY and such songs... but then you don't know the spirit of U2 at all. yeah in that case, I understand why you want Keane or so...

Kings of Leon is one of the bands who are more like the U2 spirit. OK, not four kicks... that's not at all U2. But the song ''Rememo'' reminds me of ''Rattle and Hum'', and the song ''Milk'' reminds me of the ''The Unforgettable Fire'' album... and another songs remind me of some U2 era's.
But come on, Wich Keane song does let you remind of a U2 era.

I'm not saying that you may not listen to Keane and so, I only want to point out why Keane is not like U2 at all and why Kings of Leon resembles more to U2 than Keane and so...

Keane does not even have a personality, like ''The Fly'' or they haven't even something like Guggi. Nothing stands out of there personality... They're just like the regular ''love songs'' artists. They only write about love. It's just so boring, they don't write anything like controversity or other problems. Yeah, love problems...

I'm not saying that you may not listen to them... I only want to point out why Keane and so don't have the U2 spirit.

Lol, I happen to love all three of those. Well, granted, I've only heard one or two of each of those (the popular ones that got radio play, obviously), but I loved all of them. It would just complete my day (as if wouldn't already been completed by U2) if ANY of those were the opening act, so when I just read that The Killers were playing in Europe my heart jumped a little.

I pity your obvious lack of soul. Keane are like U2 because they have the same aching beauty and depth... there is no other band around today who can move me like those two bands. Everything *else* is boring and samey, Keane are the only ones who dare to inject a bit of spirit and meaning into their music. It's a lot more interesting than your "oh we are so witty, check out our repetitive guitar riffs" bands... yawn... I don't understand how you can say you "know the spirit of U2" and yet you can't see the gorgeousness of Keane's music. How sad.

But I get the feeling I'm talking to a brick wall here. ;p

Oh I know what the spirit of U2 is. It lies in the spirits of artists and bands like John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, The Ramones, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley etc.

The spirit of U2 is not another band who writes about love... Everybody writes about love. Ok, some artists write more deeply lyrics about love than the others. But hey, come on... ''It's just another love song''.

And there are so many bands who play songs like the song ''Bedshaped''. That kind of feeling, or vibration or so of the music (I'm not talking about the lyrics now). All those Keane songs are all in the same cathegory of music. I don't hear any variation of music. Ok, they love to play songs about love, with music that is similliar to it. But I don't really hear some variation in their music. Like a song that is really kinky, and about love. No, they only play really ''sweet'' kind of music. Like, the whole album exists only about the ''sweet'' vibration and only about love lyrics.

When I listen to a U2 album I hear a lot of variation in their songs. They don't play only the same kind of style or roughness (I mean with this: On the Unforgettable Fire album you have ''MLK'', that's a ''sweet'' style. While ''Pride'' is more tougher than ''MLK''). I also hear a lot of variation in their lyrics. It's not only about love. Hey, most of Bono's lyrics who pretend to be love lyrics are mostly about his mother. WOWY isn't about love but about touring. Bad isn't about love but about the pour people in Ireland who inject themselves with drugs and die from a overdosis while the rich Irish people can do everything they want. They wrote Bad because a friend of them died from an overdosis on his own birthday anniversery.

Also, Keane hasn't a personality that stands out. Like a ''Fly'' character, or a trademark like Guggi or the white flag, or sunglasses etc.

My sister bought the CD ''hopes and feares'' in the hope of Keane being the first new band in ages with great variation (in music, lyrics etc.), personality, feeling. But no... she sold it on E-bay because it was another band who only plays like the same things over and over. And no personality. Their personality is like all those bands from now. actually, no personality. They dress the same like all the other ''dreampop'' bands.
My mother listens to bands like Joe Cocker, The Ramones, Black Sabbath, U2 (she listened to them when I started to listen to them), Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix etc (all those bands who U2 likes, she listens to them, and I think that's a big sirprising similarity). And when my sister put on the Keane CD, my mom said afterwards something like: ''What's this for another snobby and whining band? They only can play the same stuff over and over and the same stuff everybody is writing and playing about.
I totally agreed on that. Though I heard the CD before my mom did, and I was thinking all those things that I just told to you.
And then a few weeks later My sister said the same, just like my mom.

I'm not saying you may not listen to them, because that would be egoïstic. Everybody may listen to everything they want. But don't tell me Keane is like U2...

No, Keane do not "only sing about love". That album is about all manner of human frailties, and there's plenty of room for personal interpretation just like there is with many U2 songs... besides, the album is called "Hopes And Fears", it's *meant* to have a theme running through it. Christ, they've only put out one album so far - it's a bit early to be accusing them of never putting variety into their work.

Granted, you can't put them on the same level as U2 when they've only just started out, but they certainly have that indefinable spark of "magic" that I also see in U2. There's real heart, they're not just trying to sound clever or whatever. And there's also real talent... stunningly beautiful lyrics that choke me up just from reading them, a singer with one of the most angelic voices ever to grace the airwaves, gorgeous melodies - the album is flawless, it stirs so many emotions at once. I don't know how anyone could find it boring. But whatever, we'll agree to disagree.

As for your other argument - uhm, you're criticising them for not wearing fancy costumes???  That's seriously shallow.

I'm not saying you may not listen to them, because that would be egoïstic.

No, you're just saying that anyone who thinks Keane would be a perfect U2 support act isn't a true U2 fan ("you don't know the spirit of U2 at all"). And that is an idiotic thing to say. I understand perfectly well what U2 are all about, and I can still see admirable qualities that the two bands share. I don't particularly care if you have an irrational hatred for Keane (and god knows you've popped up enough times to remind us of it), but there's no need to go around insulting those of us who do love them.

If you want to compare U2 to a band or artist, it would be Pearl Jam or INXS .

Great personality with great trademarks. And in their time, you couldn't compare their looks with the other bands.
They write about love, hate, psychologic controversity, politics, world problems, drugs, rascism, poverty, etc. Things U2 writes about too.
Their music isn't always the same. Maybe you think it is, but just listen to Pearl Jam's The best of and INXS their best of. I hear many variations in their music styles.
