I'm currently feelin: worried worried

This talk of selectivism and the whole tour smacks of selling out and totally forgetting their fans. Larry's apology for all we know might've just been a PR move. I'm really worried about them. Maybe its all gotten to their heads, especially after the last tour being so successful. I got my ticket and I'll (grudingly perhaps) go see them but I doubt it'll have the same emotion, and feelings of awe, that it once did.

Worried, yes. Ready to throw in the towel? never.

Time for you to invest in nose plugs then, ehy? What your suffering from is nothing that cannot be cured by just deleteing or hitting the x up there in the corner and getting yourself some sleep. You shouldn't be getting your panties all in a bunch because someone is pissed off about the whole pile of stinking lottery shit.

You are lucky you are blind, things always smell worse when you can see them.

Mm. Sort of like what you could do with my comments, right?

Seriously, I'm not the one with my 'panties in a bunch' (as you so eloquently put it) here. It's a public forum for a public discussion of opinions and ideas. People with differing opinions don't bother me to any real extent- I just think the whinging is ridiculous, which is why I skip the majority of it, and spared ten seconds of my time to write a one line reply to this post.

Unlike some, I don't think it's necessary to take what should be a pretty calm, low-key back and forth and use it to levy personal attacks, or to act inappropriately to comm members. But that's just me.

I love how everyone throws out the good, old 'sellout' tag whenever things happen that they do not like. I do not think they have sold out at all. They are just trying new ways of doing things to cope with the huge demand they produce, and as with all new things, it has been a matter of trial and error. No matter what they do, someone is going to be unhappy. Cater more to fan club members, they are elitist and ignoring the rest of their fan base. Run it more on chance and random-ness, and they are ignoring their fan club and therefore their most die hard fans and treating them shabbily. Either way, someone cries 'unfair!'. Not to mention that with handing over the bulk of the organisation and business nitty-gritty to ticketmaster, clearwater,etc.... alot of it is out of their hands. They may not actually be getting much say in how things are handled. Another thing people throw up in the selling out argument is the ipod thing. Which is total bollocks. They only accepted some money for the u2 ipod, which came under their branding and licencing deals. They accepted no money for anything else. The ads they did for free to get more exposure for their new song. May I ask why the shows will not have the same emotion or feeling? From what I hear, they have gone back to their roots, concentrating more on connection rather than show, so I would have thought the opposite...Plus, early reports have been giving good revies and ratings....

I don't remember people complaining about their old way of doing it, as that way has been in use by them and many other bands for a loooong time

But they changed it for a reason. And while that reason is unknown, it is being done this way now and people are being really judgemental. I have heard members say they are being marginalised, while I have jeard non-members say they feel like they are leftout and treated as 'not enough of a fan'. And yes, I remember with zooo and elevation non-memebrs feeling like the ticket distribution was a bit eleitist. One thing fan club members have to remember when they give their 'treating fans badly' speech, is that not all fans are members and they have just as much right to be in the elipse as anyone else.

I don't have a problem with the way the elipse/GA thing is being handled. While part of me does think it's unfair to people who camp out all day, some of us don't have the luxury of being able to camp out all day. Why should I have to "suffer" (I use the term so very loosely) because I have a day job and can't spend all day in line?

Oh, and why bother going if you are only going 'grudgingly', if you are looking forward to it so little, give the ticket to one of the many other fans who would not only kill you to go, but would probably turn up naked and in full body paint and a tiara just for the priviledge.

I guess I can see your point. The fact that they went so many years saying "We are going to do it all on our OWN, we don't need no sponsors".. etc etc etc, well that rather spoiled us all I think? They never promised us that they'd NEVER "sell out", they promised us that they wouldn't GET TO THE TOP by selling out, and they kept that promise. Personally I am proud to be in love with one of the only bands on the planet with their own iPod design! Besides, all of this publicity all of this is generating is bringing more attention to Bono's AIDS work, and the more exposure you get on that the better. The guys are not as young as they used to be. By October of next year, all 4 of them will of officially reached "middle age". They have gone through divorce, children, deaths of family and friends.. they aren't the same band we knew 10-15 years ago. Think about it, would YOU be happy with the same old job, year after year, with the same pay?? Methinks if you went from garage band to kings of the world, you'd think you have the right to spike your ticket prices too. :) Hold on to faith, because no matter what they are potraying by all outward apperances, they are still the same guys we learned to love on the inside. :)

i see where you're coming from. In a way it's kind of annoying how popular they've gotten..good for them, but bad for fans who have been with them since the beginning, because it's damn near impossible to get tickets anymore. And they do seem to be everywhere...clothing, ipods.. They're just so incredibly mainstream now.

le sigh.

dont get me started about loyalty. It seems the more fans U2 gets, the more of them I label as "fair-weather". As long as U2 is doing what they want, they are cool but as soon as U2 or their management does something they dont agree with or understand, they start whining to high heaven. I've seen it in this Community as well as everywhere else on the so-called U2 online fan base.

ANYWAY, at San Diego, some ASSHOLES in the heart at the front had a LARRY SUCKS banner. I thought that was such incredibly poor taste, I swear I wanted to go down there and shove that banner up their sniveling arses!

And by the way, I really dont care if anyone here disagrees with me. So reply if you want about how "off" I am, but um, I really dont care. My mind is set.

A Larry Sucks banner? That's just ... bizarre. I mean, why? Yeah, it's rude, but I'm more stuck on why someone would say that? I know Bono has his detractors, but Larry? How weird.
