Bono has always been a crusader for the poor and sick, and he has shared political views both in and out of tours, but have you noticed the loss or pretense this time around?

During the 90s, their messages where wrapped, and sometimes hidden, in the glitz and the glamor they used ironicly during both ZooTV and PopMart.

The first two shows of the Veritgo World Tour, I think, were much more open and obvious about their potlical and religious views. The same, I think, goes with their videos. Especially SYCMIOYO

Thoughts?

I haven't been to a concert but judging on what I hear I think they're going back to their "War"ish era.

I definitely notice a return from the glitz -- I think the message has always been as powerful though. Maybe the boys are just realizing that the naivity they had during the early years that allowed them to just sing it -- without the glitz -- wasn't so naive after all :)

From the photos of the shows that I've seen, it looks like they're going for a little more honest version of the glitzy days. They are taking the visual ideas and mediums that they worked in the ZooTV and PopMart tours and combining it with their 80s more straightforward look. It might be a little less ironic than in the past but I think that this functions just as well.

It makes sense that they would seem more obviously spiritual these days, since Bono has been working more closely with a slew of contemporary Christian artists on the One campaign. He's really transcended the chasm between "Christian" and "rock" especially in the past few years. My husband listens to a great deal of contemporary Christian music, and the whole scene has rather embraced Bono & the fans of it as well as the musicians simply adore him. He says he adores gospel music as well, so. Anyway, point is, it's influencing U2 in what they do, and taking Bono back to his roots in more ways than one. :)
