Song of The Day @ 03:42 pm

hue126:
I'm currently feelin: sleepy sleepy
I'm currently hearin: Rob D, "Clubbed to Death"

Today's selection is

"Mysterious Ways" from Achtung Baby (1991)

Thoughts: I'm really wishy-washy with this song. While I absolutely enjoy the instrumentation of the song and the natural sound of Bono's voice, the track is sometimes kind of annoying. Maybe it's the repetition that occurs at the beginning of the chorus. Or the fact that the chorus is too simplistic. There are times when I really love to hear this song and then, there are other times when I'd switch radio stations if it came on. But the instrumentation of the track is its true strength, with the different mixes of the guitar with the bass and drums. The song sounds really dark with some of the instruments, but it doesn't overpower the song in any way and thus, makes it very light. Nevertheless, I think "Mysterious Ways" is a standout track of "Achtung Baby".

Hee. Actually, this is one of my favourite U2 songs, possibly my favourite. I love it in a different way than my other favourites where often it's about an amazing lyric, or some innovation in the sound. This one I love with this....GAH reaction. I love to drive around when it's nice out with it on REALLY loud in my car. That bass line is amazing. Edge's guitar makes me nuts. It's the song I am desperate to hear on tour, and I am just crossing my fingers that I get it.

GREAT song... it might not be one of my *absolute* favourites, but I adore it nonetheless. It's such a slinky, sexy little number - I particularly love the guitar, and of course Bono's voice. And the clever lyrics. My favourite bit is when Bono is improvising over the end of the song, it's so passionate. Love the video too, with the droolworthy red shirt. ;p  But Mysterious Ways *really* comes to life on the ZooTV tour... that amazing falsetto verse ("I'll give you roses...") kills me DEAD every single time. Not to mention the brilliant visuals with Morleigh shaking her stuff. They just don't do that song justice any more in concert.

I really love the song, actually, but it's not one I can put on repeat for hours at a time. I don't ever skip over it, think it's a great song to dance to, I love the music and the lyric, but it's got it's "over load" qualities to it.

Though, I would like to see it live.

Possibly one of my all-time favorite songs. And that's saying something.
I had a dream (or it really seemed like one) that someone posted on here about recent live versions of MW being "crapped out", and I agree. Just one listen to this version, from Boston on St. Patrick's Day, got me completely hooked on this song all over again.

I love the "TEACH ME, I WANNA DANCE!"'s. And Bono and those high notes around the guitar solo... guh.

Probably the best one I've heard is on the Outside Broadcast bootleg. I think it's from Houston 14/10/92, but that could be wrong. Utterly fantastic performance.

If it weren't for this song, I probably would have no idea who U2 is. This song has changed my life. Kbye.
