I wish I was there

(This is something I posted in my own journal, thought I'd appropriately share - sorry for the repeats!)

It’s pledge time again for our local PBS station here in Boston, and they decided to show U2: Under a Blood Red Sky, the video of their 1983 concert at Red Rocks in Colorado. I had never seen this before, so I just had to tune in. A special shoutout to my buddy bostondave for letting me know it was on! Here is my color commentary:

First off, I was scared for my life (and Bono’s!) when towards the beginning, he fell backwards into the crowd, mosh-pit style. It looked suspicious to me, because I could have *sworn* an arm in the crowd reached up, and deliberately grabbed Bono’s leg. Ugh! Crazy fans! Oooo, but I bet those lucky folks up front got a fistful of Bono. Ah, lucky lucky lucky.

I love it when in New Year’s Day, Edge plays piano AND guitar. Sigh, truly amazing.

Also, I love when Edge sings lead (kind of) in Seconds. But this shot was from Sunday Bloody Sunday.

Bono does kind of look like a chubby Ron Wood from the Rolling Stones. Uh oh, more audience grabbage.

There were plenty of shots of Bono from the back, strutting his stuff. Ah, tight black denim jeans. I take back every bad thing I ever said about the 80s!

Complaint: not enough Larry screen time. Really, the video was seriously lacking in shots of Larry. Too bad, because this was when he still had that boyish charm. Oh, not that I am complaining about how he looks now! Also, I’m sure it’s just me, but Larry reminds me of Matt Damon in this picture.

Party Girl: Somebody threw something at Bono. It was this olive green cloth thingy. It was kind of funky looking, and not in a good way.

WHAT IS UP with that random girl Bono pulls up on stage? And lord, what on earth was she wearing? This short brown yarn and fur jacket not unlike the one French Stewart wore on 3rd Rock from the Sun. Hahaha, it is soo random how they were dancing on stage like that. She looked like a deer caught in the headlights at one point. But she danced pretty decently. At one point, Bono kind of picks her up and twirls her around. Sometimes, I feel that Bono is getting a little too friendly. Okay, if I were Bono’s wife, I would be crazy jealous of all these random women. I mean, If Bono *must* kiss, hug, and dance with a female on stage, it would have to be me. But Bono’s wife Ali is a better person than I, she is a woman of true grace.

I guess to make up for the lack of Larry, there were plenty of Adam shots. Oooooh baby. Oh yeah. Nice.

HAHAHAHA, some PSYCHO chick just rushed the stage during I Will Follow. She looked crazy. All she did was wrap one arm around Bono and frantically wave at the audience. Security tackled her pretty quickly. Bono wasn’t even phased, never even missed a beat. Gotta love security. I was at a Coldplay concert where this girl tried to rush the stage, but the guards got her before she was even within 10 feet of the boys.

How beautiful… I wish I were there! Too bad I was only a year old at the time.

Well, that’s my commentary – it is in no way complete, because I happened to be folding my laundry and packing for my trip to New York at the same time! Out of Control.
