Song of The Day @ 01:52 pm

hue126:
I'm currently feelin: content content
I'm currently hearin: Stars, "This Charming Man"

Today's selection is "Yahweh" from How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb (2004)

Thoughts: I really like "Yahweh" despite the fact that the songs in the latter half of HTDAAB are generally the weaker ones from the album. I really like the harmonies and how it feels really sonically alive because of the instrumentation. It's one of those songs that work because it caps a really strong album and brings the audience, most of them anyway, into a place that feels familiar and soothing rather than putting the pedal to the metal and driving them away from things.

Fantastic song - I absolutely love all the tracks on HTDAAB. I'm so pleased they actually put in an upbeat closer for once, it's nice to end on such a warm and joyful note. The lyrics are lovely, the choruses full of passion, and the music so driving and energetic. I don't even care that it has a religious theme, because (rather like with Gloria) the greatness of the song makes up for it.

Favourite line:
"Take this mouth, so quick to criticise
Take this mouth... give it a kiss
"

And my other favourite bit is the glorious crescendo of "This love is like a drop in the ocean". It's enough to get me quite choked up. Beautiful song.

The alternate mix, by contrast, is just discordant and horrible, and I'm so glad that mix didn't make it onto the album.

Definately a song that grew on me. Beautiful imagery in the lyrics...

Me too. For the longest time, I couldn't decide if I liked it or not. I loved the music underneath, and loved the lyrics, but really disliked the double-layering of the vocal line. pick the lower or upper octave and stick with it, Bono!

Also, I'm still not a huge fan of the chorus melody. "yahWEHHHHHH!" It comes across kind of ... I don't know. Piercing. Or something.

But now I love the song, and adored the stripped-down live version.

I love the vocal layering... I noticed it a lot on the new album and I'm glad to see the return of that style. :)

Yeah, I really like this song. I don't get why a lot of people don't like it, but hey, to each his own.

I love the lyrics. The chorus is a bit iffy, but the rest of the song is so lovely that I don't mind.

I love this song, especially live. It seems good to year 5000 people calling out for Yahweh.

I am so in love with this song. It sounds like a prayer to me. I often actually go into listening this song with a prayerful mind, because I think a lot of it is something I pray for myself.

It is simple, yet complex. In the music and the symbology that it presents. I'm not sure that it's Bono's best singing, but that lends something to it... it's like he's crying out to God. Amazing.

I almost feel silly... cause I want to be like the people I see at my church on sunday when they are singing along with the worship band. I want to put my hands up in the air and get all into it.

When it all culminates into "Take this heart and make it break..." It's like the release of your spirit, a point where you just give it up to God. Man. Sorry. I just love this song.
