Song of The Day @ 01:27 pm

hue126:
I'm currently feelin: happy happy
I'm currently hearin: Coldplay, "Speed of Sound"

This will be the last "Song of The Day" that I will post. I don't have the motivation to keep doing this and I'm just starting to get busy so... if anyone in the community wants to take over, I don't mind at all.

Today's selection is "Stuck in a Moment" from All That You Can't Leave Behind (2000)

Thoughts: There are times when I like this song and there are other times when I find it really annoying. I think the bad feelings come from the really, really obvious "message" that the band is trying to convey in the lyrics. It's like being hit over the head over and over again. The opposite of that is the fact that the song is damned catchy and has this whole gospel feeling that runs through the entire thing. The instrumentation and some of Bono's delivery contribute to the gospel feeling and I have to admit that I really like the song for that.

(I intended Sunday's song to be "The Sweetest Thing", which I think is just the penultimate summer song if ever there was one, but I couldn't get to updating it)

good last song.

to me this song is painful (not in a bad way). i have this feeling of regret in my gut when i listen to stuck in a moment. i really have grown to love it more and more over a couple of months.

I'll take over if no one else wants to.

Good choice for the last song, though I'm sick of it, it had me hooked for quite a while, it was my "graduation" song from middle school

I'm kinda "meh" about this song. Never struck me as a great song. Registers kinda low on my list of favorite tracks. On the other hand though, love the football video for this song. :)

I really like the song... sometimes I love it.. sometimes I just like it. It's really poppy but I guess that's appropriate. The message of the song fit the theme of ATYCLB perfectly. It's really easy to get sick of with repeated listenings though (which is why I try to hold myself back sometimes).

The transition between "Beautiful Day" and "Stuck in A Moment" on ATYCLB is really wonderful. I don't know what it is about it... I guess you can say "Beautiful Day" is when the plane takes off and "Stuck in A Moment" is when you start to relax for the trip. Don't know if anyone feels the same way.

And yeah, I hope someone else will take this under their wing, if nobody else will than I will do it.

I never thought of it that way, but I like the way you stated it.

Aww, I hope somebody does take over this feature, it's my favourite thing in the U2 community. :)

Stuck In A Moment... it's a nice song and I like it, but it certainly doesn't get me excited, which I suppose sums up my feelings about ATYCLB as a whole. It's not quite as epic as I think it would like to be (Sometimes You Can't Make It does the same job a lot more effectively). And it never worked live, because it lacked a certain spark - I always thought it would have been cool if they performed it with a backing choir, that would have made it more powerful. Favourite lines: "I never thought you were a fool / But darling, look at you" and "I am still enchanted by the light you brought to me". The bridge is my absolute favourite bit, though.

As for the videos, I love the original one with Bono falling out of the van, but the American football version is quite possibly the most cringeworthy thing they've ever done. Talk about not being in the spirit of the song.

If it's okay with everyone I'd like to start doing this part of the community, it's my favorite part of the whole community and it seems fun to pick songs, hope no one minds (like if they wanted to do it)

Ahhh, at last, the song that got me into the band in the first place! This one's got significant meaning for me. Back in the day when I felt like my life was going to shit, I listened to this one and it kept me hanging on. No more to say... nothing could do this song justice for what it did for me.

It's the second to last summer song? *g*

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Sometimes I quite like "Stuck," other times I think it's bad on several levels.

I love the part where he sings "I was unconcious half-asleep until you discover how deep". That's so beautiful.
I love that song so bloody much.
It's gotten me through rough times.

Isn't the line actually...

I was unconscious, half-asleep
The water is warm 'til you discover how deep

?

Just checking! :-)

Yeah. I knew there was something wrong but my mom was talking to me and my sister was too so it was like AHHH can't think.
Thanks for the correction. Hahah.

Yeah, I have a sort of love-hate feeling for this song too. I love the ending where Edge sings "And if the night runs over..."

PS: This is off topic, but could you possibly email me (marikitm@gmail.com) or set up an mp3 link for Speed Of Sound? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I do have the mp3 but I'm not sure how emailing the mp3 would work. If you could talk me through on how to do it.

If you're emailing it, you can attach it like you would any other attachment I believe.

Or, you could go to yousendit.com and it would email me directly with a link once you upload it.

Thanks in advance.

I guess "Stuck in a Moment..." is sort of a song that I could take or leave depending on my mood. If I haven't heard it in a long time I can sit through it and sing along happily enough, but sometimes when I have the CD in, I'll just skip right over to "Elevation". I think it's more the music that leaves me feeling iffy because the words are great.

"The Sweetest Thing" is poppy and cute. The video cracks me right up.

One of my favorite songs on the album, although I think I like the acoustic version better. This and Walk On were the two songs that got me through 9/11 without a nervous breakdown.

Also, am I the only one that likes the American video (the fooball game)? Pink bunny forever!
