Song Of The Day @ 03:13 pm

I'm currently feelin: loved loved
I'm currently hearin: The Unforgettable Fire- U2

Todays Selection is...

"The Unforgettable Fire" from The Unforgettable Fire (1984)

Thoughts: From the moment the first note hit my ear drum I knew I would love it. At first the song made me feel alone and different from everyone else, maybe it was the voices in the background in the first minute of the song, or the beat of the drums but something about it made me feel excluded from everyone else and then as I was about to change to change the song since I didn't need to be anymore depressed (it had been a very bad few weeks) I heard the lyrics "Walk On By, Walk On Through" and then came the up beat melody. It lifted me up and I got through my problem, and now whenever I'm faced with a new problem I put that song on and feel like I can do anything.

This song ranks in my top 10 U2 songs ever. It's just absolutely beautiful, the lyrics, the music, but in a somewhat haunting way.

"These city lights, they shine as silver and gold.."

Really? I never knew..

The Unforgettable Fire would definitely be Top 3.

It's also my favorite album.

I never really understood why everyone loves it... beautiful lyrics, but the music just doesn't grab me the way the rest of the album does. What I mean to say... is it's solid, but never really stood out to me the way Wire, Bad and Pride do. It's got great imagery, though. The line "carnival, wheels fly and colors spin, througout the hall, red wine that punctures the skin" is one of my favorite U2 lyrics of all time, it completely paints this beautiful kind of abstract watercolor picture in my head.

Yeah, that's exactly how I feel. Actually...that's creepily close to how I feel. o_o Haha.

Beautiful, beautiful song. Love the vocal line, the orchestration, the lyrics.

I've always been curious, though - at the very beginning, you hear Larry click off the beat, then stop, and then there's some muffled speaking. What the heck is he saying???

Supposedly he mutters "Shit" because he counted in too early, and it definitely does sound like that!  Though I've also seen websites that deny this theory.
