Song Of The Day @ 01:53 pm

djmlm41:
I'm currently feelin: bored bored
I'm currently hearin: People Talking

Today's Selection is...

"Pride (In The Name of Love)" from The Unforgettable Fire (1984)

Thoughts: I don't know what it is about this song that is so wonderful. I love it very much but I have to admit it, to me it seems to lack something on the album. When you hear it live though it sounds amazing. Bono puts all that he as into the song, Larry drums beautifully and with all his might, Edge has great guitar solos, and Adam is the glue of the song it makes it all come together. Perhaps I love it more due to the fact of what Bono said about it during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction- about Adam protecting him from getting shot. (If you haven't heard what he said about it I'm sure someone will be kind enough to explain, and if they don't I will...evenitually)

Pride is U2's most complete pop/rock tune. I prefer the extended version to the album version tho. Cant imagine what you think the song lacks on record?

I have to say, while it's undeniably a great song, I'd be okay never hearing it again. So, so, so very tired of it. I was into it at the first Seattle show (it worked really well after the HUman Rights thing), but was my pee break song during the second Seattle show. *g*

what Bono said about it during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction- about Adam protecting him from getting shot.

That was an absolutely amazing moment. I'd never known about that until Bono said it there.

Personally, I think they play it horrendously live. =/ But that's just me. It sounds so much grander in the studio, and it's lost its tempo even more during this tour and Elevation. It doesn't work as slow as they're doing it.

Third Kodak moment. 1987. Somewhere in the south. We'd been campaigning for Dr. King, for his birthday to become a national holiday. In Arizona, they are saying no. We're campaigning very hard for Dr. King. Some people don't like it. Some people get very annoyed. Some people want to kill us. Some people are taken very seriously by the FBI. They tell the singer that he shouldn't play the gig because tonight his life is at risk, and he must not go on stage. And the singer laughs. Of course we're playing the gig. Of course we go onstage, and I'm singing "Pride (In the Name of Love)" -- the third verse -- and I close my eyes. And you know, I'm excited about meeting my maker, but maybe not tonight. I don't really want to meet my maker tonight. I close my eyes and when I look up I see Adam Clayton standing in front of me, holding his bass as only Adam Clayton can hold his bass. There are people in this room who'd tell you they'd take a bullet for you, but Adam Clayton would have taken a bullet for me. I guess that's what its like to be in a truly great rock and roll band.

I love this song because it ties two things I love dearly together, U2 and Moulin Rouge. (It's used along with many, many other songs by various artists in the Elephant Love Medley)
