Song Of The Day @ 11:29 am

djmlm41:
I'm currently feelin: bored bored
I'm currently hearin: Waiting for my new Dave Matthews Band album....

Today's Selection is...

"In God's Country" from The Joshua Tree (1987)

Thoughts: From the album that most of the music world consider U2's best album, The Joshua Tree (though I disagree), this song is probably the best song on the album. Though it's surprisingly short, it captures a certian something that just brings it together. It's catchy, short yet complicated. Between the very interesting yet simple lyrics and the well put togther melody, it's deffinatly my favorite off the Joshua Tree album.

P.S  Happy Birthday Bono!

One of my top five U2 songs. The opening riff, just the great SOUND of it, great lyrics, great to sing along to. It's 3 minutes (or whatever it is) of perfection.

I don't think TJT is their best album either, but I do enjoy it very much, and In God's Country is no exception. It's full of the energy and passion that's so typical of 80s U2... beautiful evocative lyrics and I love the way Bono pronounces certain lines. His gentle vocals on "Sleep comes like a drug" really help to enhance the dreamy quality that the lyrics keep suggesting. I think the song's also got a slightly unusual melody / rhythm which I find appealing.

Set me alight
We'll punch a hole right through the night
Every day the dreamers die
See what's on the other side

I don't really like this song at all... it just annoys me for some reason. I wish I could explain it, but I can't.

Possibly the best vocals ever captured on a track.

That song makes me want to drive down some deserted road, find an empty field and dance around like a mad woman. JT is superb.

Happy birthday, Bono!

The energy of the guitar is awesome. Who would think that one repeated note (plus a couple more) could be so powerful? But the song makes me grin whenever I hear it. JT in general just makes feel happy to be alive.

That song is in my top 5 favorite U2 songs ever. High energy, soaring vocals, that ringing guitar--awesome!
