Song Of The Day @ 07:13 pm

djmlm41:
I'm currently feelin: creative
I'm currently hearin: When I look at the world- U2

Today's Selection is..

Peace on Earth" from All That You Can't Leave Behind (2000)
Thoughts: Never before has there been a song that actually made me cry. I'll be honest to tell you that I don't cry at movies or songs, I'm more of the person that has to see reality to cry- not just some movie or some song but this song made me cry. Because of the fact that the drums and guitar is so soft the lyric's and Bono's voice really stand out. So much about this song is true about our world today, how we treat others and how we should really truly treat them. Every time I listen to this song I honestly want to be a better person

Favorite Lyric:
Jesus in this song you wrote
The Words are stickin' my throat
Peace on Earth

Beautiful. Gorgeous. A prayer.

I think it's what Bono would be if he were solo, or maybe not in a band.

And he brings tears to my eyes, something hard to do.

I'm not really sure what I think about this song. I like the thought behind it. I like the lyrics. I love singing a harmony to it. I especially liked it when, for the Tribute To Heroes concert, Bono changed the line to "Sick of hearing... that there's never gonna be peace on earth". I like the bittersweet Christmassy feel to it (it reminds me of If God Will Send His Angels in that respect).

And yet... I tend to skip it. There's just not quite enough to it, somehow, to make it a classic.

I agree with you. The song itself is great, but I generally skip it over as well. There's nothing that really makes it a standout track, but then again, perhaps that was the point...

this song reminds me of winter. i dont know why.
also, i remember listening to this cd right after 9/11, and the hopeless sound of this song sort of matched how i was feeling.

Wow ... I feel like I'm kicking a puppy to say this around people who really love it, but ... I really don't like this song.

The thought behind it is nice, and yeah, who doesn't love the idea of peace on earth? But as a song, it fails for me. The lyrics come across as trite, and ... I can't even really say why it doesn't work, it just feels to me like a weak song.

I do, however, like the "Peace on Earth" intro to "Walk On" in concert.

I think this song, nestled into the intro of Walk On, with the Hallelujias at the end of the song, and the "keep yur hearrrrt in your soouuuullll" bit in the outro, makes for some of the best 5 or 6 minutes of U2 ever.

You're talking about their performance in the Tribute to Heroes CD? Makes me cry every time.

Pease on Earth and Walk On were both instrumental to keeping me from having a total nervous breakdown after 9/11. In fact, I'm not sure what i would have done without the album all together.

Yeah, that's nearly it, but I forgot my 'perfect' rendition of Walk On, that Tribute to Heroes one would be perfect except it's missing the guitar solo. My dream version of Walk on has the Peace on Earth Intro, the guitar solo, that break down before the "all that you fashion..." part, the Hallelujias, and then the "You've got sooooouuulllll" in the end. Yeah OK I'm obsessed. I'm pretty sure they played it like this at the very end of the Elevation Tour.

But yeah, I feel you, those songs have the glue to keep a person together. :-)
