Song Of The Day @ 10:20 am

claudiathefish:
I'm currently feelin: cheerful cheerful
I'm currently hearin: U2 - In A Little While

Today's Selection is...

“In A Little While” from All That You Can‘t Leave Behind.

This song has always been one of my favorites off of All That You Can’t Leave Behind. I first acquired the album before a very memorable trip to North Carolina, so I associate most of the album towards sights I saw there; leafy things, forests and such.

I love the very bluesy sound of this song; in the (very easy to play!) guitar part, and Bono‘s vocals. It’s almost as though the music carries the song more than the vocals do.

Some of my favorite parts of this song are when the music kicks up at “When the night takes a deep breath/ and the daylight has no air,” (love that whole phrase, actually…), the “Turn it oooooooon,” part., and Bono’s wailing “oh-HOOOOOOOOOO”.

That’s all. Love this song.

In a little while
Surely you'll be mine
In a little while I'll be there

In a little while
This hurt will hurt no more
I'll be home, love!

When the night takes a deep breath
And the daylight has no air
If I crawl, if I come crawling home
Will you be there?

In a little while
I won't be blown by every breeze
Friday night running
To Sunday on my knees

That girl, that girl
She's mine
And I've know her since

Since she was a little girl
With Spanish eyes
Oh, when I saw her
In a pram they pushed her by

My, how you've grown
Well it's been, yeah
It's been a little while

Slow down my beating heart
Man dreams one day to fly
A man takes a rocket ship into the skies
He lives on a star that's dying in the night
And follows in the trail
The scatter of light

Turn it on
Turn it on
You turn me on

Slow down my beating heart
Slowly, slowly love
Slow down my beating heart
Slowly, slowly love
Slow down my beating heart
Slowly, slowly love

Yeah, that's one of my favorite parts of that song too.

I skipped over this song when I listened to All you can leave behind but then I watched the Boston DVD and they played it for Joey Ramone. It really is a beautiful song.

Bono's voice is so raw and almost needy in this song. I love it. I also love the story he told about it being one of the last songs Joey Ramone listened to before he died.

My FAVOURITE song from All That You Can't Leave Behind, the only track on the album that affected me on a deep emotional level. I love it so much. It surprised me because it didn't sound at all promising when they put the 30-second previews on the website - it sounded like it would be quite tuneless and Bono's voice would be in awful shape. But it turned out to be absolutely beautiful. I love everything about it, from the distinctive guitar intro to the aching vocals to the gorgeous, poetic lyrics. "And lives on a star that's dying in the night, and follows in the trail, the scatter of light" - I wish I could write stuff like that. I too love the "Turn it on, you turn me on, mm-mm-mmm yeah" bit, but my absolute favourite part is "Slow down my beating heart... slowwwly, slowwwly love". It's one of the most romantic, heartwarming songs U2 have ever recorded, and it's very dear to me. I love singing along with this.

I somehow forgot to mention my other very favourite part, which is of course the falsetto "oh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh"s. Any song where Bono does that is bound to be an instant favourite with me!

Great song. I love it. Next to Kite, my favorite from ATYCLB. So glad it comes right after it.
Favorite part:
Slow down my beating heart

A man takes a rocket ship into the skies
He lives on a star that's dying in the night
And follows in the trail
The scatter of light

My mom's favorite from the album. And I really like the man dreams one day to fly verse. Awesome!
