Hello Hello!!

Question about support acts & DVDs... @ 02:17 pm

splishysplashy:
I'm going to the 14th June Manchester gig (WOOHOO!) - anyone know all the support acts?

Also, I have enough money for ONE U2 DVD. Which would you nice people recommend I splash out on? I haven't got any yet. :(

Thanks!

Definitely the Slane DVD.

After that I'd reccomend the Zoo TV Sydney video if it ever comes out on DVD.

I'd have to go with the "Slane" DVD as well... =) Whenever I sing "Sunday Bloody Sunday" to myself, I find that I'm singing this version of it... =D

But, any are good. I saw the DVD for "The Joshua Tree" at a K-Mart for only $4 the other day...

Curses! I knew I should've shopped around instead of buying the Joshua Tree DVD when I saw it for $6 at Best Buy. ;) I like that one.

lol =D

Yes, I love it, too. My favorite part is getting to hear the Edge play his favorite part of the album from "With or Without You." =D

His name is David, too... =D Maybe that's why I like him so much. =P

I'd go with Slane as well. There are rumours that a boxset of DVDs is coming out this year too!

Yep. I say 'rumour' because we have yet to hear anything official on it, but all looks to be going well! I really really hope it comes out because I've never seen Red Rocks or PopMart!

Elevation Tour.

Have to say I didn't care much for the Slane DVD. *ducks*

Simple curiousity, no crankiness involved, but why not? *G*

Two reasons.

1. Musically - the setlist for Boston was better. Well for me that is. Slane had a good enough one, but there are songs from that show that I simply do not like, whereas Boston's show I liked everything. Also, the omission of "Bad" from Slane is unforgivable. ;)

2. Cinematically - Boston is better. But I can't fault cameramen at Slane. There's a huge difference between an arena show and an outdoor concert. Again, personal preference, but I found Boston cinematically better.

Overall though, I don't dislike the Slane show. I just prefer Boston more. ;)

I have to agree that Boston is better cinematically. I agree it could be due to the arena vs. outside show thing. I also got tired of looking up Bono's left nostril at Slane.

But as far as song selection, I have to disagree, completely. 'Bad/40/Streets' is awesome, yes (Electrical Storm single, anyone?). But, if for no other reason, 'All I Want Is You/Streets' rules all. It is the U2 song-selection KING... nay, EMPEROR.

I suppose this is entirely because of my Slane bias - it was my first ever segue into U2. Yes, I had heard tracks such as "Mysterious Ways" and "Elevation" on the radio, growing up. But an editted version was on satellite TV here once, as a FreeView. My parents recorded it as a "Oh, U2... I liked them once" sort of thing. I was instantly hooked. By the end of that summer, I owned every CD and some DVDs. Including Boston, which I originally didn't care for, due to my Slane bias. But it has grown on me...

On the musical front, Slane had a few tracks that I just plain don't care for/ ambivalent about: Out of Control, Angel of Harlem, Staring at the Sun and All I Want is You, whereas I enjoyed the entire Boston setlist.

Again; completely not faulting the band, the venue or those involved with the creation of the DVD. Simply a matter of taste. I prefer Boston more than Slane. :)

Thank you everyone for replying, I actually no longer have enough for any DVDs but tis my birthday in 2 months and I'll be keeping in mind your kind suggestions! Actually I looked at the Slane one in town in a record shop and thought the setlist looked ace, so I will probably end up getting that one! :)

You sound like you are from the UK, Maybe the Emerald Land I've always wanted to go to. Maybe you are from England. Anyway, thanks for calling me hun, Honey. Reply back to me, I don't think you'll be sorry. I know we both are crazy about U2. You can call me Debs. I am from the USA. Later, Splishysplashy.
