Hello Hello!!

beatlette:
Hello everyone! I'm doing an art project on U2 and I needed some other's input: What U2 lyric(s) stand out to you the most? I have to do a photo collage and fuse text and pictures together and I wanted to do a U2 song or part of a U2 song. What song or which lyrics have such vivid imagery to you? Sorry if this confuses you, but I just needed a few other opinions...thanks so much! :)

This probably won't help you much, but...

For me the lyrics:

"No man is my enemy
My own hands imprison me."

and

"Yeah, I'm here without a name
In the palace of my shame"

from Love Rescue Me just totally speak to me. Probably because, to me, it verbalizes how I feel when I get so depressed that I have trouble just getting out of bed. Like I'm caught in this lonely grey fortress on a hillside where no one can hear me. Then I hear Bono wail out "Love rescue me" and realize there's a lot of people who love me. So I escape my own mind and get out of bed.

In the stillness of the evening
when the sun has had it's day,
I heard your voice whispering
'Come away, now...'"

From "New York"

and

See the world in green and blue,
See China right in front of you,
See the canyons broken by cloud,
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out,
See the Bedouin fires at night,
See the oil fields at first light, and,
See the bird with the leaf in her mouth,
After the flood, all the colors came out..."

From "Beautiful Day".

Excellent choice!

The last verse of "Summer Rain"
"It's not where you're born
It's where you belong
It's not how weak
But what will make you strong"

And because I love the whole song of "The Playboy Mansion" because I love all the 90's references. The whole song reminds me of seeing billboards and headlines passing by.

here is from "silver and gold"
Broken back to the ceiling
Broken nose to the floor.
I scream at the silence
It's crawling, crawls under the door.
There's a rope around my neck
And there's a trigger in your gun.
Jesus, say something!
I am someone, I am someone.

from gone
You're holding on to every little thing so tightly
Till there's nothing left for you anyway.

zoo station:
Time is a train
Makes the future the past
Leaves you standing in the station
Your face pressed up against the glass

crumbs:
With a mouth full of teeth
You ate all your friends
And you broke every heart
Thinking every heart mends

i also love the "every artist is a cannibal...etc" from the fly, but someone posted it :) good luck on your project

I love those line from crumbs! There are so many great lyrics. Some that stick in my mind:

A man and a woman:
The soul needs beauty for a soul mate
When the soul wants… the soul waits …

One:
Did I ask too much, more than a lot
You gave me nothing, now it's all I got.
We're one, but we're not the same.

You ask me to enter, but then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on to what you got, when all you got is hurt.

Grace:
What once was hurt
What once was friction
What left a mark
No longer stings
Because Grace makes beauty
Out of ugly things

the lyrics to numb might be good, but i'd really have to know the feel of your art, what you want it to be, in order to help. if you still want my opinion or ideas, just let me know how you want the piece to feel!

but damn, reading all of these lyrics makes me incredibly thirsty for u2, i think my heart is going to explode.

"You gotta cry without weepin'
Talk without speakin'
Scream without raisin' your voice"

and "Dream beneath a desert sky"

for some reason, those lines ALWAYS stick out in my head.

Also, anything from "Tryin' to Throw Your Arms Around the World" always reminds me from a weird ass dream.

My fiance engraved "Lift my days, light up my nights" from Mysterious Ways on the back of my iPod.

Other ones that stick out are:

Ultraviolet:

I remember when we could sleep on stones
Now we lie together in whispers and moans
When I was all messed up and I heard opera in my head
Your love was a lightbulb hanging over my bed

If You Wear That Velvet Dress:
Sunlight, sunlight fills my room
It's sharp and it's clear
But nothing like the moon
It's okay
The struggle for things not to say
I never listened to you anyway
I got my own hands to pray

From Surrender:
The city's alight with lovers and lies
Bright blue eyes
The city is bright
It's brighter than day tonight

and

The city's a fire, a passionate flame
That knows me by name
The city's desire to take me for more and more
It's in the street getting under my feet
It's in the air, it's everywhere I look for you
It's in the things I do and say
If I want to live
I've got to die to myself someday

I have two:

Life should be fragrant, from rooftop to basement --Kite

And,

Here I go and I don't know why
I spin so ceaselessly
'til I lose my sense of gravity

That one is from a cover they did of "Dancing Barefoot" by Patti Smith. I really like U2's version better, though.

Actually, I like them both so much I have them as the "signature" on my outgoing email.

First lyric that popped into my mind was

"dressed up like a car crash
the wheels are spinning but you're upside down"

- always puts me in mind of a particular party girl I used to know, around dawn, after a long night of carousing.
