Song of the Day @ 11:22 am

zoostation:
I'm currently feelin: rushed rushed

Today's Selection is...

The Refugee from "War"

I haven't heard this song, so discuss your hearts out.

// The Refugee

Wa, war she's the refugee.
I see your face, I see you staring back at me.
Wa, war she is the refugee.
Her mama say one day she's gonna live in America.

In the morning she is waiting
Waiting for the ship to sail, sail away.

Wa, war her papa go to war.
He gonna fight but he don't know what for.
Wa, war her papa go to war.
Her mama say one day he's gonna come back from far away.

Oh help me
How can you help me?

In the evening
She is waiting
Waiting for her man to come
And take her by her hand
And take her to this promised land.

Wa, war she's a pretty face
But at the wrong time in the wrong place
Wa, war she's a pretty face
Her mama say one days she's gonna live in America.
Yeah, America.

Wa, war she is a refugee.
She coming back, she come and keep you company.
Wa, war she is a refugee.
Her mama say one day she's gonna live in America.

I love this song too! I think that what gets me the most is how choppy the lyrics are. It definitely works with the subject matter that is being discussed. It sounds a bit harsh but that makes it very powerful. No fluff or wasted words. It's straight forward and in your face.

and I'm beginning to think that song of the day should be done on songs the person who's writing has heard, just MO.

Three things.

It's my first time doing something like this.
I was in a rush this morning.
It's not something I plan on doing often.

Personally, I think it's quite fun when the SOTD poster hasn't heard the song they're putting forward. It's a chance for us to describe exactly why they need to hear it. :)

I'm so pleased to see everyone in this thread loves The Refugee... I've seen it slagged off loads in other forums, and I've never understood why, it's one of my favourite tracks on War!  It's just catchy as hell, it always gives me mental images of tribal dancing, what with the pounding drums and the "ki-oh ki-o-oh" chanting. Plus Bono's voice sounds great, the tune is great, the guitar is great, and I love any song where Bono will grunt like that in the middle.
