I just scored a used copy of the unforgettable fire cd single for 9 bucks....

plus they had about 7 other cd-singles that i didnt have..

interesting how they were "hidden" in the industrial music section....

Interesting indeed. Do you have the New Year's Day or Pride CD singles? You must get them if you do not. Fantastic B-sides there, especially Treasure, Boomerang Pt II and I Threw A Brick Through A Window/A Day Without Me live.

used treasures

I found Pop, Achtung Baby, Zooropa, and the Unforgettable Fire at this little shop up the street from my school. I also found Under a Blood Red Sky at another store while I was away during Spring Break. Now all I'm missing are Boy, October (though I've been advised its not worth the trouble, hmmmm), War and Joshua Tree. Silly me! I only buy any older albums (more than 2 years old) used.....

a second opinion on october

(Link)
i personally love october, and not because i'm an old fan (i'm twenty) and not because i only like their older stuff (my alltime favorite is pop and i care little for the joshua tree these days). i love october because i love knowing how passionate they were then and because i love how i can still hear that passion now, albeit a little more restrained and mature. and because october is great young-man punk about the most unusual of punk subjects (god). but then, would our boys have done it any other way? of course not.

and the lyrics to stranger in a strange land kick butt, imho.

Ah, its good to get another opinion :-). I've only heard Gloria and the title track but I have the rest on bootleg. It is very passionate material but I've just not heard most of it on record. If I ever find it, I'll definitely buy it. I'd like to own all of it eventually. Just the older stuff used as you could tell from my comment ;-).

If you'd like another opinion, I think October is definitely worth getting. (I'm what you might call a "middle-aged" fan: I first discovered them when I saw the videos for "The Unforgettable Fire" and "Pride" on MTV, and the moment I first heard "With Or Without You", I was hooked for life.) When I started buying U2 albums, I worked my way back in the order that I found them. October was probably the one I got after I got all the other early albums, but some of the early U2 songs I like best are on it. "Tomorrow" is one of my favourite U2 songs to this day; it deals with Bono's mother's death, and I feel that Bono's vocals on this song are particularly touching - definitely worth hearing. "Gloria", "Rejoice", "Fire" and "October" are all what I consider great songs. I know the album had its problems, but it also has a lot to recommend it, as far as I'm concerned. :) I think the album is underrated.
