Song Of The Day @ 10:22 am

claudiathefish:
I'm currently feelin: contemplative contemplative
I'm currently hearin: U2 - Elevation (Slane Castle)

Today's Selection is...

“Some Days Are Better Than Others” from Zooropa.

When I first purchased Zooropa, I hated this song. (Okay, I hated all of Zooropa, but gradually, it grew on me.)

Yesterday I was letting the album play, and SDABTO came on. I let it play, and was surprised at how much I actually liked it. Adam’s bass is, once again, turned up way too loud, but it works. I also like the ringing bit of guitar work by the Edge.

And, erm, favourite part of the song: The “whoo-hoo!”s after the chorus.

Some days are dry, some days are leaky
Some days come clean, other days are sneaky
Some days take less, but most days take more
Some slip through your fingers and onto the floor

Some days you're quick, but most days you're speedy
Some days you use more force than is necessary
Some days just drop in on us
Some days are better than others

Some days it all adds up
And what you got isn't enough
Some days are better than others

Some days are slippy, other days sloppy
Some days you can't stand the sight of a puppy
Your skin is white but you think you're a brother
Some days are better than others

Some days you wake up with her complaining
Some sunny days you wish it was raining
Some days are sulky, some days have a grin
And some days have bouncers and won't let you in

Some days you hear a voice
Taking you to another place
Some days are better than others

Some days are honest, some days are not
Some days you're thankful for what you've got
Some days you wake up in the army
And some days it's the enemy

Some days are work, most days you're lazy
Some days you feel like a bit of a baby
Lookin' for Jesus and His mother
Some days are better than others

Some days you feel ahead
You're making sense of what she said
Some days are better than others

Some days you hear a voice
Taking you to another place
Some days are better than others

Heh. I love Zooropa, and this one of the two songs I really dislike. *g*

Do you have that Smith's song? I'd love it if you'd share if you do. My email's in my user info- that works better for me than YSI but it's whatever. Pretty please!

I think you're living in my brain. I woke up singing this song to myself. It's kind of therapy when you're cranky in the morning.

Some days you feel like a bit of a baby

Awesome!

I woke up singing this song as well, that's why I chose it.

I've noticed that most of Zooropa has way too much bass, not that it's a bad thing but it's like they forget to mix it in with the rest of the music. I've actually noticed that with a few of U2's albums. I love the bass, don't get me wrong, hell I play it, but when you're trying to listen to something that's supposed to a kind of mellow, slow song, the last thing you wanna hear is the bass super loud over powering everything including the vocals.

I have definately noticed that when i play Zooropa in my car, i end up having to turn the bass way down. its still awesome, but a bit bassy at times! :)

Same. It's funyn cuz when I listen to it in my room things rattle off the shelf above my speakers!! So I've creatively made a little barrier to stop my dolphin figurines from crashing to the floor :)

Yep, but I love it all the same. My mum will tell you that when that CD first came out I listened to it non stop and I didn't like U2 back then! LOL

Amen sister, but there are some songs I would prefer there to be less bass, or at least pushed farther in the mix like the drums.

This is definitely the weakest track on Zooropa, and this inconsistent quality towards the end of the album is the only thing that stops it from being up there with the very greatest (Achtung Baby, etc). Which is a shame, because Zooropa is mindblowingly amazing on the whole.

Still, it's not a bad song. The bassline is obviously one of its strongest points, along with the general quirkiness of it. And I've always loved the line "Some days are sulky, some days have a grin / And some days have bouncers and won't let you in". :)

Oh, I've always loved this song. I like the groove the bass adds. As somebody said up there, it's good for when you feel blah. I think Bono described it as a cheeky, summer fluff sort of song. It makes me smile when I hear it. :)

I adore this song. I tend to like the ones that turn others off. It's just a very open and honest song. It's not cryptic or anything like that and sometimes its nice.

I'm the same way. Almost every U2 song my mum doesn't like I adore. But I agree with you on this one.

Possibly the best lines from the whole album.

Those are my fave lines. Garunteed to bring a smile on a bad day! LOL
Oh, and the "whoo=hoos"- it's interesting that I heard the same exact who-hoos in a Rolling Stones song. Which tickled me pink, cuz of course my mind made the leap to my icon. Hee!

You know, it's a shame, but I can't remember the name or anything. I just remember looking at my mom and saying Hey, U2 does that in this song! And she laughed and quoted the lines too.

This song convinced me to buy "Zooropa". The album is a mixed bag, but "Some Days..." is one of my favorites from the album, next to "Lemon" and "Daddy's Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car."

Been on vacation away from the computer, so I thought I'd drop in to "a few days ago" and mention that this is like my theme song. One of my favorites on this album. Especially:

Some days it all adds up
And what you got isn't enough
Some days are better than others
