Song Of The Day @ 05:45 pm

claudiathefish:
I'm currently feelin: cheerful cheerful
I'm currently hearin: U2 - Trip Through Your Wires

Today's Selection is...

“Trip Through Your Wires” from The Joshua Tree.

I am in love with this song. It’s one of my favourite songs off of The Joshua Tree, and that’s saying something. It’s disappointing how much this song is criticized as being “kiss-off” and “too light” , because I feel it fits in perfectly with the rest of the album.

I love Bono’s harmonica-playing-ness.

I’ve always liked the sound of Edge’s guitar in the background on this song; the intensely high part at around 1:35 in the song. And of course the yelps and howls in the song, and Edge’s harmony vocals. It’s so much fun to sing along to.

In the distance
She saw me coming 'round
I was calling out
I was calling out

Still shaking
Still in pain
You put me back together again
I was cold and you clothed me honey
I was down and you lifted me honey

Angel
Angel or devil
I was thirsty
And you wet my lips

You, I'm waiting for you
You, you set my desire
I trip through your wires

I was broken, bent out of shape
I was naked in the clothes you made
Lips were dry, throat like rust
You gave me shelter from the heat and the dust
No more water in the well
No more water, water

Angel
Angel or devil
I was thirsty
And you wet my lips

You, I'm waiting for you
You, you set my desire
I trip through your wires

All I need... all I need
All I need... all I need
All I need... all I need
All I need is... is...

Thunder, thunder on the mountain
There's a rain cloud in the desert sky
In the distance she saw me coming 'round
I was calling out
I was calling out

ahaha, I never thought it sounded like "I was cold and you clothed me honey" and now that you mention it, it really does sound like that.
But I'm a bit hearing impaired, so maybe I'm crazy. oO.

Great song. My favorite version has to be the one from Birmingham in July 1987 -- Bono introduces it with, "I'm supposed to know how to play harmonica for this song. I can't play harmonica! Does that matter?!" to which the audience responds, "NO!"

I love that song as well and it really does fit in with the rest of the Joshua Tree!

I hate this song. It sounds like four bales of straw came to life and started fooling around with random instruments. Way too twangy. Way too sloppy. And I could never make out the lyrics until you just posted them.

I really like this song! I thought most of the U2 fans hated it and I felt like Im the only one who actually likes it. But its good to see that some people here share my opinion :)

I love it too. It wasn't on the first tape of a tape copy of the album I had, and when I finally got the CD I nearly wet my pants with exitement when I heard it the first time. Somehow it always remindes me of 'Love Rescue Me' from Rattle and Hum...

You pretty much said it all there. I agree completely, it's enormous fun to sing along with, especially with all the random yelps and pleasant harmonies. :)  It's such a feelgood song, and it fits in just fine with the rest of The Joshua Tree - I can't imagine why anyone would dislike it. I love the "Angel, angel or devil" lines, but my favourite part is:
"Lips were dryyy, throat like ru-ust,
You gave me shelter from the heat and the du-ust,
No more water... in the we-ell,
No more water! Water!
"

And don't you just love the tinkly bit right at the end? :)
