Song of the Day @ 05:23 pm

zoostation:
I'm currently feelin: silly silly
I'm currently hearin: u2 - bad

Today's Selection is...

"Bad" from The Unforgettable Fire

This song was a sleeper for me. Something I would always skip to get to "Where the Streets Have No Name" in the Best Of... cd. Then somehow this song just clicked for me. I love the drums. Especially when Larry bounces from playing the cymbals back to drums and back to cymbals. For me, it's the whole song. I don't even hear lyrics until Bono starts to shout "Wide awake!!!!"
Huh. I guess that's the purpose.

Edges guitar also makes me happy in this song. It's probably one of the most recognizable songs by it's first few notes just cause of that.

Your Butt Is Mine
Gonna Tell You Right
Just Show Your Face
In Broad Daylight
I'm Telling You
On How I Feel
Gonna Hurt Your Mind
Don't Shoot To Kill...

Oh I'm only joking.
:)

// Bad

If you twist and turn away.
It you tear yourself in two again.
If I could, yes I would
If I could, I would let it go.
Surrender, dislocate.

If I could throw this lifeless life-line to the wind.
Leave this heart of clay, see you walk, walk away
Into the night, and through the rain
Into the half light and through the flame.

If I could, through myself, set your spirit free
I'd lead your heart away, see you break, break away
Into the light and to the day.

To let it go and so to find away.
To let it go and so find away.
I'm wide awake.
I'm wide awake, wide awake.
I'm not sleeping.

If you should ask, then maybe
They'd tell you what I would say
True colours fly in blue and black
Blue silken sky and burning flag.
Colours crash, collide in blood-shot eyes.

If I could, you know I would
If I could, I would let it go.

This desperation, dislocation
Separation, condemnation
Revelation, in temptation
Isolation, desolation
Let it go and so to find away
To let it go and so to find away
To let it go and so to find away

I'm wide awake, I'm wide awake, wide awake
I'm not sleeping
Oh no, no, no.

Favorite lyrics:
This desperation, dislocation
Separation, condemnation
Revelation, in temptation
Isolation, desolation

Condensation, reclamation
microdermabrasion!
Woot!

I love this song. I love Bono pushing his voice to the limits like that when he screams "WIDE AWAKE!"

I can only imagine what it's like live.
XD

*rubs hands for November 14th*

They had better polish those gigantor TV screens at the American Airlines Arena. Considering it will be my only view of U2.

I first heard this song sitting on my friend's roof in Arizona. At the lines you mentioned, he stood up and wailed the lyrics.

Brilliant.

Bad is my favorite song ever. Not only my favorite U2 song, but my favorite song of all time. There is so much emotion in this song, through the instruments, through the lyrics, and through Bono's voice. It just touches me deeply. All kinds of emotions over come me whenever this song comes on. It's just magical. I can never get sick of it. In fact, the more I hear it, the more I love it!

I discovered this song after I purchased one of the Best of.. cds and fell in love immediately.

I think I need to buy the live version off of iTunes sometime.

Hands down my favorite U2 song. Ever since I heard the Ruby Tuesday version on Rattle and Hum, I was in awe and in love.

It was amazing live: hearing that and then the band going into Streets is probably one of the best experiences one could have. :-)

Right on!

I love all the different little snippets that Bono adds - I'm liking the Blackbird snippet from this tour.

Bad + Streets... *drool*

THE song that did it for me. Hearing his voice crack and everything. Started out about heroin....became a plea for so much more...

Interesting. I hadn't heard about the heroin thing.
Here's what the sometimes smart people at songmeanings.net say.

B and
A gainst
D rugs

It would be awesome if that were confirmed.

One of my favorite U2 songs ever.

I've been to four concerts and have not been lucky enough to hear it live yet, though I at least have .mp3s to tide me over. Going to see them again later this year, so that'll be another chance.

This song was a sleeper for me. Something I would always skip

Funnily enough it was the same for me. The Best Of was my first U2 CD, and Bad was initially one of the few songs that didn't impress me much. Now I can't imagine what the hell was wrong with me, it's amazing!  I love it from beginning to end. The intro is just so pleasant on the ears - especially if you listen through headphones and get the full effect of the cymbals travelling from one side to the other. Bono is the star of this song for me, though. His voice is stunning, from the soft aching vocals on the verses to the throat-destroying passion of the chorus - I can very rarely manage those "Wiiiide awaaaaake" notes, and always feel highly pleased with myself when I do! *g*

Apart from that tricky bit, I love singing Bad, it's got such a nice melody and beautiful lyrics. (I particularly like "Colours crash, colliiiide in bloodshot eyes...")  I love the "Hoo-hooooo!" bits too. And I was so smug the first time I successfully memorised "This desperation - dislocation - separation - condemnation - revelation - in temptation - ISOlation! - DESOlation! - let it goooo!" ;o)  Hell, even Bono can't usually remember that bit...

Impressive live, e.g. the great performance in Rattle & Hum with the Rolling Stones snippets. But I think I'll always prefer the gorgeous album version (though I seem to be in a minority there!)

Oh yeah - I love some of those ZooTV versions, with Bono doing beautiful falsetto snippets of "Oo-hoo, Daddy you're a fool to cry" as well as the passionate "No! No! Not fade away!" bits. Wonderful...

I meant Larry, but okay.
;)

How about we just worship U2 in general?
Bono is the reverend, Edge is the choir director, Adam is the usher and Larry takes your money.
lol

I absolutely adore this song! It's in my top 5 favorite U2 songs :)

Whenever I work nights, this is the last song I hear before going in, and somehow I survive the night with it in my head :)

Again, this song is one that grew on me too. I used to skip it on my Best Of, but now that I really heard it, I love hearing live versions of it... it's so epic, it's amazing!

I have never skipped this song.

There are two U2 songs that never fail to carry me right out of my head and into the music: "With or Without You", and "Bad". When either of them comes on, I just drift away. I love to close my eyes and just listen...

Bono, I love you. For these songs, if nothing else.

this song, like many others have already stated, is my all time favorite song of all time. I dont particularly like the video for it and i heard it the first time on Wide awake in america...a cassette i found at a garage sale for 5 bucks that had 4 songs on one side and the same four songs on the other side :D. then i found it on Unforgettable Fire too.

I was truly blessed to hear this song live at the Vancouver 1 show, especially because almost every concert since then, they've played it at the second or third show.

And if you really want to hear the awesome drumming of Larry, put on a pair of head phones and give it a listen. its impossible for you to even fathom keeping up to what he can accomplish with only two hands and two feet!
