Song Of The Day @ 08:48 am

claudiathefish:
I'm currently feelin: cheerful cheerful
I'm currently hearin: U2 - Elevation

Today's Selection is...

“The Electric Co.” from Boy.

Oh. What can I possibly say about this song besides the facts that I love it, and that it was one of the songs that made me a U2 fan? I love every single part of this song, from the hyperactive beginning, to the guitar “solo”, to Bono’s Bongolese in the break, to the… are those bass harmonics during the break? And of course everything from about 3:40 on, where no one has any idea what Bono is saying.

I believe that the lyrics from U2Wanderer.org are incorrect, therefore, this is my own interpretation of the lyrics. Today, the name of the game is: if you have the time, listen to this song. Decipher. What is Bono saying?

Boy, stupid boy
Don't sit at the table
Until you're able to

Toy, broken toy
Shout, shout
You're inside out

If you don't know... Electric co.
If you don't know... Electric co.

Red, running red
Play for real
Talk and feel

Holding your head
You won’t shout,
You still beg,

If you don't know
Electric co.
If you don't know
Electric co.

One three four
I can so,
You stay, see, sit there tall
You say see, sit there tall
Sitting tall…

If you don't know... Electric co.
If you don't know... Electric co.
If you don't know... Electric co.
If you don't know... Electric co.
If you don't know... Electric co.
If you don't know... Electric co.

So we stop on this lonely road,
He says he’ll go
To the top of this long road,
This long road
(We stop for me)
This long road
Just to hear me
It’s a long road
Two hours at the top,
And I can’t find my way home.
It’s a long road…
(Can’t you, can’t you get?)

You know
And you know
And you know
And you know
And you know

A song that I have to say I didn't like the first time around. But the more I listen, the more I fall for this song. Been listening to Boy a lot this past little while, and this track is definitely among the highlights.

Great track selection!

Heh, first time I heard this song I thought Bono says "We stop to pee" =X

Lol, anyway. I love this song, and I love how it goes right into Shadows and Tall Trees.

The only track I regularly skip when listening to Boy. It's alright, but I seriously don't understand the hype it gets. I'm sure the indecipherable lyrics are part of why I can't connect to it, because I love singing along with U2 songs and I can't sing along with much of this one. And it's just kind of... all riff and no substance, I guess. The guitars and drums are really good, but it doesn't have any depth of feeling to back it up. They played it at the Vertigo shows and whilst it was certainly fun and energetic - something to keep us rocking - I would have been far more thrilled to hear one of the more interesting Boy tracks, like A Day Without Me. Maybe one day...

I've always thought the last line of the second verse is "You're still dead". And he definitely sings "Tomorrow's another day" near the end.

I heard it first on "Under a Blood Red Sky". Years later, I heard it on "Boy", but I think I prefer the live version. That song, perhaps is the reason I resolved to see U2 live.
