Is it true that today's guitar magazines are bad?

The U.S. ones, yeah.

I used to subscribe to a couple back in the 90's when I was first starting, and I stopped after they started putting Limp Bizkit and Korn on the cover every month. I still peruse them in bookstores once in ahwile, and it doesn't seem like the magazines have really recovered from those dark days of music. Even when they write about old stuff, how many times do we need to hear someone say the same things about Jimmy Page? *shrug*

I do plan on getting the Edge guitar world one of these days...ya know, cause...it's Edge. :)

I heard the Edge article is actually quite good.

I think some of those mags still do decent articles for musicians, the issue in question is whether they choose people that any serious musician would care about. I mean, is playing guitar like System Of A Down so complicated that it requires a 20 page article? I don't think so. ;)

Your icon! Your icon! Best thing EVER! I laughed so hard when I saw that on Family Guy.

I haven't bought a single one in 4 years, that should tell you something. I only bought them mostly for the tabs anyway, and since I've gotten to the point where I can figure out a song myself, I really have little use for them. Except to drool at the newest Gibson model or whatever.

Yeah...they used to pick songs to transcribe that you actually wanted to learn how to play. Then around 98 or so it got to be kind of a joke. I mean, is it really neceesary to write out notation for a Blink 182 song? I'm not saying everything needs to be Zappa or Dream Theater, it just seemed a little silly to me, when they could've been transcribing things that might be a little tricky to figure out on your own.

That's true... sometimes I look at the tabs in the newer issues and shake my head. On the other hand, I guess they'd be good for beginners to learn.

I like the guitar magazines...they have sheet music in the back for the fetured songs and i also like to read the articles with the bands...in the new guitar world they also have dave groul and trent reznor in it who are some of my favorites...and i actually used a guitar world for one of my research papers on led zeppelin and subliminal messages.
