I think I love you in the strangest stranger way. I feel the same way; I tell people I like U2 and they look at me as if I have a disease, or at least, if they like U2 they go off about how their new music sucks, the older music was better, et cetera. I almost agree, but my music taste varies on my mood, so I like the fact that U2 has a very wide range of music styles, because I can almost always listen to a U2 song that works for me.

OH, and also, I can't help I was born after Boy came out and couldn't go and see them in the 80s because I was a small child! So why do some people who DID see them then act as if they're superior? I can still appreciate the music now...
I'm mentally applauding you, madly. I get so sick of seeing some people go off about "kiddies" just because they're older and "wiser". At least we have the good sense to appreciate good music, instead of that MTV trash that I've refused to watch since the popularity of TRL.

You now hold a very high status in my head as far as LJers go. And your icon is the best.

For the most part, I get number 1 all the times from my friends. Today at Chili's SYCMIOYO came on the radio and all I could hear was the bass. And I recognized it immediately (obsess much?) and I called it out and sang along (softly, I might add) and my friends looked away. My guy friend just shook his head. Dude it's U2. U2! Top of the world rock band. Who else could you say is in that place? No one!
I got the last bit from my Godmother, who saw my U2 ticket on the wall. She was like, "my husband wanted to take me to the U2 concert, but I refused cause nothing can compare to U2 of the eightes. I'm like, "HTDAAB is really good though. And you should give a listen to ATYCLB, it's not so much of their 90's stuff."
That's pretty much where the conversation ended. She didn't even want to give it a try even though I was motioning to my stereo. Her husband on the other hand, heh, I got him to listen to AB at a party and he fell in love with early 90's U2. I burned him all these copies of cd's in hopes he'll enjoy them.

I get so sick of seeing some people go off about "kiddies" just because they're older and "wiser".

I KNOW! At another party they had 80's music playing and I was totally jamming to it. This snobby friend of my Godmother walked by and she's like, "You're a little too young to like this 80's stuff. How do you know this?"
You can't be serious. I'm not completely devoid of music taste just cause I was born like 15 years after you! Songs don't just vanish a year after they were written!

Anyways, enough ranting. I'm on the same page with you. I think most 16-25 year old U2 fans are on the same page. And I'm glad I've heard Bono recognize this new crop of U2 fans (dropping ticket prices for the next tour).
Res-pect!

That's so snooty. By that logic, nobody is allowed to like classical music on account of not being alive when it was being composed and performed.

Haha I read "Godmother" as "Grandmother" and in my head, I went "I wish my grandmother listened to cool music!"

Growing up, I listened to Joshua Tree and Rattle&Hum almost religiously. I grew up almost(but not quite) poor, so I never really bought many CDs. My dad owned Achtung Baby, but I didn't like it because.. haha, I always thought I was listening to AB, but I really wasn't! He had another cd that had a cover that looked a whole lot like Actung Baby(I think the name of it was Exile on Main street, have no idea if I'm right or who did it), so one day, ten years down the road, I had nothing better to do, and voila... A new loved cd was born.

And quite frankly, I've been a U2 fan all of my life, so I don't understand how people can look down on others just because they're young. It's like, you're supposed to look down on people that like things as a FAD. U2 isn't a very trendy fad! At least, not here. If I wanted to like what was popular, I'd go commit myself to the Eminem scene and get pregnant!

pfffftttt.

Time to end weird rant/story/whatever. I didn't know they were dropping ticket prices; it makes me very happy too. I've told my friends that I'm going to every U2 concert that comes to Michigan. Again, strange looks ensue!

LOL, no way! She wouldn't even begin to get it. The only thing I can play for them on my u2Pod that they enjoy is "Unforgettable" by Nat King Cole.

Yeah, Bono mentioned it in an interview he did for MTV. Someone posted a link to the online interview a while back. John Norris (?) interviewed each band member for like 10 minutes.

Ha, I recognise u2 songs all over the place too! I did that when COBL came on the radio here during its release and it was played quite often on the radio my mum listens to, and it was on one night and I raced over and turned it up and went 'argh, it's u2!' and then everyone came in the room, ignored the fact I was clearly in a high state of worship and proceeded to talk over the whole thing. Grrrrrr and more rrrrr.

I totally know what you mean with old songs too. I love stuff from most decades - some Motown stuff is amazing but obviously I wasn't born then! My brother also likes old stuff - we often joke he was born in the wrong decade. But I think we were really born in the RIGHT one, because not only can we appreciate all the old stuff but we're young enough to enjoy the new as well ;)

And yeah I read Bono saying about how he feels they influence that age group, cause a LOT of u2 fans these days fall into it.

Heh, thank you muchly for the mental applause and your strange love - it means lots! Bless you for your nice comments. I'm glad you see things the way I do - I was starting to think I was going mad because I was on a random forum and all the topics seemed to start with 'Vertigo is crap!' or 'I hate [insert u2 song here].' Yawn. WHY spend all your fan time hating stuff? It's so ignorant.

Oh and thanks re: my icon - many evil laughs were given during its creation! ;)
