Hello Hello!!

August 2nd, 2005

One of the Best U2 songs.... ('One' of course being the best...) @ 11:20 am

hfrogg451:
I'm currently feelin: happy happy
I'm currently hearin: 'One'-U2

First off, I'm listening to the Best of 1990-2000, so forgive me for gushing but I just think that 1990s U2 is some of the most interesting and exciting music out there. Secondly, this song is just one of the most powerful and catchy songs they've ever done and I'm so sad that it doesn't get more attention and radio play. I'd love to hear it live too..

Electrical Storm Lyrics

The sea it swells like a sore head and the night it is aching
Two lovers lie with no sheets on their bed
And the day it is breaking

On rainy days we'd go swimming out
On rainy days swimming in the sound
On rainy days we'd go swimming out

You're in my mind all of the time
I know that's not enough
If the sky can crack there must be someway back
For love and only love

Electrical Storm
Electrical Storm
Baby don't cry

Car alarm won't let you back to sleep
You're kept awake dreaming someone elses dream
Coffee is cold but it'll get you through
Compromise that's nothing new to you.
Let's see colours that have never been seen
Let's go places no one else has been

You're in my mind all of the time
I know that's not enough
Well if the sky can crack there must be someway back
To love and only love

Electrical storm [x3]
Baby don't cry

It's hot as hell, honey in this room
Sure hope the weather will break soon
The air is heavy, heavy as a truck
We need the rain to wash away our bad luck

Well if the sky can crack there must be some way back
To love and only love

Electrical storm [x3]

Baby don't cry [x3]

Ah, who am I kidding.... I love everything U2 does and it's nice to know there are large groups of people out there or generally agree with me! Woot for U2 LJ community and excuse to gush about The Boys..

Yay! I always love it when I hear other people adore this song as much as I do. So many people I know are kind of "eh" about it, but I just don't understand why. It's just such an understatedly sexy, gorgeous, grown-up song. You can literally *feel* a humid summer day and the tension within a long-standing romantic relationship, lyrically and sonically. Plus the Anton Corbjin video is one of my favorites U2 has *ever* made. *<3s Samantha Morton*

Yes, it is a grown up song about hard times and that's what I like about, so many songs on the radio are all bubble gum and gooiness, this one keeps it real. That and Larry dripping wet in a bathtub suits me just fine any day... umm yummy.

But, I hear you about other people not being nutty about it. I mean, when you're a band like U2, who has been around for 25 years there are sooo sooo many good songs to choose from as 'excellent' or 'good'. I can see why some might look at this song and say 'eh' not their best, but considering a 'good' U2 song is still ten times that of an average band's work, I still say I love it. That and it's just fun to listen to it and think of Larry-wet-in a bathtub with a mermaid! Talk about impossible love... aww. hehe.

Yes, yes, and yes. Awesome song. Love the buildup and the explosion near the end.

I love this song tons. I love it so much I made a music video for it in my head. (I mentioned that once. And I also remember saying I'd type it out in full detail too. Ahhh the laziness of me).
It's so morose for me. And it's imagery is wonderful.
It's very poetic. Even if the opening line is kind of...meh.

This verse in particular is moving for me:
Car alarm won't let you back to sleep
You're kept awake dreaming someone else's dream
Coffee is cold but it'll get you through
Compromise that's nothing new to you.
Let's see colours that have never been seen
Let's go places no one else has been

Wow, rockin'....

Ok, ms. P to the L to the A, you rock. I completely agree, that particular stanza is really the most poinanet and powerful of the song. If you look at the other lyrics, they really are sort of well...lame, I think it is more the emotion of Bono's voice and the melody which carry the song. But, I think it's that stanza which really captures the constant ache and numbness that arguing with someone you deeply love can give you. That horrible feeling of hopelessness and desperation that there is no solution other then constant unhappy compromise and the hope that keeps you there and keeps you thinking that it could be better.... Anyway, enough of that.

You totally should post your music video idea, I think that rocks that you can see things visually like that. I always have a hard time visualizing things but rather 'see' in words more.

It's my curse to think up music videos and have absolutely no financial means or connections with musicians to make them star in it.
On the other hand, it's like a personal television in my head.
Seeing if this evening goes as horrible as planned, I'll take my laptop along and try and hash out the video in words.
And 30 second handdrawn art, cause that's as artistic I can get.

The more I listen to U2, the more I get convinced that you cannot have one favorite U2-song, but this one is definately on the Best list! I love it very very much. Especially the 'We need the rain to wash away our bad luck'-line, but just the entire thing is gorgeous. It never fails to make my day just a little bit better!

Have they ever performed it live? Cause I would love to hear that, but have not yet been able to find a live version of it :$

I do have a uber favorite U2 song: 'One' but after that I have so many, 'oh my gosh, I love this song' favorites that it really is hard to say THIS one song is my favorite U2 song. They are just incredibily talented. I have no idea if they've ever performed it live?? If you ever find a live version, post it I'm sure many would enjoy it.

One is my special song and obviously also on the Best list, even though that Best list is a rather long one ;) I must say I'm really happy that they at least perform One very often live :D
