Song Of The Day @ 12:49 pm

claudiathefish:
I'm currently feelin: cheerful cheerful
I'm currently hearin: U2 - Elevation

Today's Selection is...

“Stuck In A Moment That You Can‘t Get Out Of” from All That You Can‘t Leave Behind.

What a great song. A few years ago, before I rediscovered for myself the amazing-ness that is U2, I would always complain about this song because of its frequent airplay. But when everyone at my local radio station forgot about U2, I found that I suddenly loved this song. It’s such an uplifting song. I also love the video, but only the European version. The American version is just… ugh.

Favourite lyrics:
I was unconscious, half asleep,
The water is warm till you discover how deep...
I wasn't jumping... for me it was a fall
It's a long way down to nothing at all

I'm not afraid of anything in this world
There's nothing you can throw at me that I haven't already heard
I'm just trying to find a decent melody
A song that I can sing in my own company

I never thought you were a fool
But darling, look at you
You gotta stand up straight, carry your own weight
These tears are going nowhere, baby

You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in a moment and now you can't get out of it
Don't say that later will be better now you're stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it

I will not forsake, the colours that you bring
The nights you filled with fireworks
They, they left you with nothing
I am still enchanted by the light you brought to me
I listen through your ears, and through your eyes I can see

And you are such a fool
To worry like you do
I know it's tough, and you can never get enough
Of what you don't really need now... my oh my

You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in a moment and now you can't get out of it
Oh love look at you now
You've got yourself stuck in a moment and now you can't get out of it

I was unconscious, half asleep
The water is warm till you discover how deep...
I wasn't jumping... for me it was a fall
It's a long way down to nothing at all

You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in a moment and now you can't get out of it
Don't say that later will be better, now
You're stuck in a moment and you can't get out of it

And if the night runs over
And if the day won't last
And if our way should falter
Along the stony pass

And if the night runs over / And if, and if the night runs over
And if the day won't last /
And if the day won't last

And if our way should falter /
And if your way should falter
Along the stony pass
/ Along that stony pass

It's just a moment
This time will pass

Gosh, the American music video is incredibly embarrassing/horrible.

A football game to depict the brilliance of this song!!? What madness...

It kind of cracked me up, what with the "failed" QB named for Bono, and then the reference to his dad when at the end it's a postal carrier who comes back and kicks the ball after all those years...

Underneath the cringe factor there's a lot to be seen there, truthfully.

my favorite thing about the video is Bono leaping out of his seat 348903 times!

Ah what a great song for my birthday ;) Love it, one of my absolute faves, the good video is ace while the other one's hilarious for Larry, lmao! And Adam reading the paper. But I swear, over the last year when times have been dodgy, this song has woken me up and got me through. Because as Bono says 'this time will pass'. How right he is.

:D Happy Birthday! Hope you're having a good one.

I hate the American video, but I do love seeing Larry smile in it!

I love this song. I just downloaded the acoustic version today off of iTunes.

I don't, however, like the European video. It gets me really dizzy. Moreso than EBTTRT. The one time I watched it in full, I had a headache (in a suitcase) for like 2 hours.
I love the American version though. It's so funny. I agree it simplifies the song, but I think that's the point. You shouldn't stress out about anything. So why make a sad mopey video when the whole thing is about getting happy?
The Unforgettable FireDome. Classic!

Acoustic version, eh? Never heard it. Could be because I accidentally deleted my entire music library. Including The Complete U2. :(

Are you serious?? There's a way to get it back. Everything ever stored on your computer has a way back. Do a system restore if you made a checkpoint.
FIND A NERD AND DEMAND HELP!

Actually, I found it from the "UnComplete U2 iTunes iMix" someone made. I love them very much for it. They took all the songs (around 15) that weren't in the package and made them into a mix. I'd post a link to it ($14.67 or something like that), but, yeah. iTunes has no links.

I like both of the videos. I especially like the part when Edge helps Bono up at the end of the European video. I love that the American one is filled with all those little references. And Edge serenading while lying flat on his back? Incredibly cute. Larry must've called in his twin for the excitement shot.
The acoustic version is much... prettier, for lack of a better word. I think I prefer it to the orignal.

The EBTTRT video... my worst U2 memory. I had just bought the Best Of 90-00 DVD and took it home. I had an uber-migrained, and was laying on my bed watching it, trying to feel better. So not only were the cameras spinning 360 degrees at a time, I was laying down so I was watching it sideways. I evenetually leaned over and puked in my bucket. The song's never been the same for me...

If you ever meet Bono, you need to tell him that story. I think he'd laugh to no end and then probably hug you forever.

This is probably one of my very favorites of all time! I'm not ashamed to admit that. I can remember sitting in front of the tv while it was playing on MTV, when they played it, and loving it. I had only seen the American version of the video until a few moths ago. I like it because of how Edge is in the video. Its so different and interesting to me. I do like the International version better for the most part.
