I'm currently feelin: stressed stressed
I'm currently hearin: Dirty Day (Bitter Kiss)

Today's Selection is...

"Dirty Day (Bitter Kiss Mix)" from the Please Single

Image hosted by Photobucket.comIt's enough I already love the original song from Zooropa. But add violins in there, and I'm sold. The song is shorter than the original, probably because it doesn't have that long intro space. I like it much better when the remix cuts straight into Edge's riff line. Even better is that the "wake up" is transformed into a "WAKE UP!" The remix sounds much more crisp. Edge's wa-wa guitar parts (during the chorus) are sadly left out of it though, but with the violins and much more prominent bass I barely even notice.

Favorite Lyrics:
If you need someone to blame
Throw a rock in the air
You'll hit someone guilty

(Look at that, it doesn't even rhyme! Rebels!)

The bass is ace. Rhyming, see?

//Dirty Day

I don't know you
And you don't know the half of it
I had a starring role
I was the bad guy who walked out
They say be careful where you aim
'Cause where you aim you just might hit
You can hold on to something so tight
You've already lost it

Dragging me down
That's not the way it used to be
You can't even remember
What I'm trying to forget

It was a dirty day
Dirty day

Looking for explanations
I don't even understand
If you need someone to blame
Throw a rock in the air
You'll hit someone guilty

From father to son
In one life has begun
A work that's never done
Father to son
Hey, one last kissin' time
Hey, one last kissin' time

Get it right
There's no blood thicker than ink
Hear what I say
Nothing's as simple as you think

Wake up!
This is something you can't get around
I'm in you
More so when they put me in the ground
Hey!

Those days, days, days run away like horses over the hill
Those days, days, days run away like horses over the hill
Those days, days, days run away like horses over the hill
Those days, days, days run away like horses over the hill

I still have to get 'into' the Zooropa album, but for now that one is my favorite as well.

And here comes the dreaded question again: could you upload it at gmail or something? Cause I would love to hear that version! It's not the same one as on the Best Of, right?

It's not on the Best Of...is it?

I would upload it for you, but I'm at work. The quickest I could get that (and "Stuck in a Moment" acoustic which I promised on Sunday) is maybe 6 pm today.

Yayyy, this is probably my favourite mix of Dirty Day (or possibly tied with the album version, which is awesome in a different way). It's miles better than the Junk Day mix, so I've no idea why they put that one on the Best Of instead of Bitter Kiss. Hmph.

This remix sounds absolutely lush right from the start. The burst of drums grabs your attention straight away, and the cello adds so much grandness to it. Whereas the album version has a somewhat bare feel and might take time to grow on you, this one makes an immediate impact - it just feels more like a *song*, the sound is fuller and stronger. I also like the additional vocals - the screamed "WAKE UP!" (funny story: first time I heard the remixes, I misheard that as "WANKER!"), and the falsetto "He-eyyy!" before the chorus and the outro. Delicious!

I adore Dirty Day in general (and the live version), but since you're asking about a specific remix, I won't bother talking about the lyrics and stuff here - I'll save that for when we do the album version someday!

Cello? Hmm... Cello.
I shouldn't try and pass myself off as an musical instrument expert.

I wouldn't have known, except it says so in the liner notes. ;)  Played by someone called Mary Gaines.

Ahhh. I don't own a Zooropa hard copy.
I think I should. Just so I can physically pet it.

As for the icon, it's missing something. I call these kinds of icons "prototype" icons cause I need a few weeks to figure out how to make them better.

I meant the liner notes of the Please single, but yes, you should also get a hard copy of Zooropa, because it is a thing of extreme gorgeousness.

Mmmm, MacPhisto strokage.

My Please single has some live tracks from Rotterdam and Edmonton without any remix track.

Ah, there's the other version! I figured you meant the import (from a yankee's perspecive)!

Heehee, I'm a yank too. They are all imports and they are all expensive. I wanted the "Vertigo" import and it was selling for like $10. I didn't even buy HTDAAB for $10! *is a value shopper, circuit city deal on the first day - $8*

Just heard this song for the first time, and I am amazed. I think, in most ways, I like it better than the album version. Yay for random Bono-yelps! Of course my favourite part in any version of this song is the "These days, days, days run away like horses over the hill..." part. Amazing. Jeez.
