Just now I had a most unpleasant moment - I'm sitting at work and we're listening to the radio. And there started the song Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own. I was listening to it and concentrating on it, coz it's a beautiful piece and I love it, but at the same time my colleagues were speaking very loudly about shopping etc.... I felt so angry about it.
And the point is not that they mustn't have talked - no!! - the point is that I felt how vulnerable this thing is, I mean the song where a person expresses their pain and intimate feelings... and it's being broadcast...

and what do you think?

If the boys didn't want it broadcast, they wouldn't have released it. :<

But I get what you mean. It's irritating sometimes when others just don't get it.

meh..if it was that private they wouldn't have released it on an album that they expected a looot of people to hear and buy. i have a feeling that the song does mean something to bono, but there's probably something else that means more and he keeps that card close to his chest.

I think if I wrote a song that beautiful, I would feel honored for people to take it to heart & enjoy it as much as (many of) we do.

But I see your POV too. :)

Better out than in.
:)
The fact that it means so much to you and so many other people is reason enough for it to have been released.
I think Bono takes comfort in sharing these feelings with everyone. It's why did those conversations. A psychologist won't cut it with this guy. I have a feeling his philosophy is: If the words leaving your mouth aren't helping anybody, then don't bother saying them at all.

i feel that way sometimes too, that it nearly somehow diminishes a song's meaning or importance to be played as background music and nothing more.

When I go to see them this fall, I'm going to force myself not to sing along during this one. It's not my song to sing.
Anyway, I get the feeling I'll be crying too hard to sing anyway.
