Elevation

I know we've done U2 tribute bands before but I wanted to give a mention about this one. They're Australian and I was lucky to catch their show twice over the past few weeks, one full on and the other acoustic. LJ cuts for your browsing convenience:

August 5th, full on
Vertigo
I Will Follow
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
Angel of Harlem
Desire
Kite
New Years Day
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Bad / Ruby Tuesday / Sympathy for the Devil (Rattle and Hum style)
-------------loooooooong 50 minute break-----------------
One (w. 'Hear us coming Lord')
Even Better Than the Real Thing
Mysterious Ways
Where the Streets Have No Name
Elevation
Out of Control
Beautiful Day (Elevation style)
Stuck in a Moment
Everlasting Love (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
With or Without You (dodgy start but with Elevation AND 2x 'Shine like stars' extensions)
Pride
All I Want Is You
Vertigo

Awesome set eh? 'Bono' was really getting into it, even if his voice wasn't at all similar. There were some great surprises thrown in there, my favourite being Everlasting Love ('a cover of a cover') but also the takes on live versions of songs rather than just the studio version. The crowd was also lapping it up. Bear in mind this was in a pub, but all the tables had been moved aside and people were dancing and singing along (with a little encouragement anyway lol). It also kept on going - from With or Without You onwards I was expecting each song to be the last.

August 29th, full band acoustic

Even more surprises in this one. My girlfriend and I were amazed to hear Silver and Gold live and Running to Stand Still was unexpected too. Then again, hearing songs like Vertigo, Mysterious Ways and Real Thing done acoustic were pretty interesting too *laughs*. 'Bono' was clearly enjoying himself and even though he doesn't sound like the real deal, the guy can sing really well. It seemed like a strange idea to have two of their best known hits (and traditional near show closers) played first, but that paved the way for a nicely jumbled, enjoyable experience. Again the crowd were loving it - cheers and claps followed each song and as the room finally became full at the end everyone sang along to All I Want Is You at 'Bono's' encouragement. Finally, the One repitiation was solely so the band didn't get lynched by those that had missed the start of the show and spent the second half calling out for it :p
