I'm currently feelin: creative
I'm currently hearin: band aid

so, i've been listening to band aid all afternoon, and i'm thinking that maybe we could really do something to improve the african situation.
you know, like Bono, we could maybe create an organisation (with u2 fans:)) to raise some money that we can donate later.

just a thought*

i love how you think.

however...there are enough organizations already created that are well organized. forming an organization is a very hard thing to do - you need to have someone in charge, if you want all the perks, you have to go through proper channels to become non-profit etc...

if you just want to set up a fund, it becomes an issue of trust and accountability...people are going to put donations into the organization but how do they know that the money will actually get to the relief effort and not go for 'administration costs' or into someone's pocket? its a hard issue.

there are charities that many U2 fans support - African WEll fund each year gives u2 faNs a chance to donate in bono's name for his birthday present. in return for donating, you get to wish him a happy birthday via ecard (or whatever else you want to say to him)

there is an organization called ICROSS in British Columbia that a small group of u2 fans has chosen to support - by knitting 'comfort dolls' for african children. the dolls are about 5 inches long and are used as packing material for delicate medicine shipments, then handed out to mostly ill children at the clinics and hospitals

as well, many of us are collecting pop cans and juice boxes at work and cashing in the refund money for african relief...i have a penny jar at work that my refund money goes in to. the peo;ple in the office are now putting dollar and two dollar coins into this jar as well, and at the end of the year we will choose where it goes - most likely to provide mosquito netting or to buy a few rabbits for a family to start a business.

there are many things you can do to involve u2 fans...an organization is just one idea.

I'd have to agree with you on the too many organizations thing. Then it becomes a popularity contest. I think that's why so many people are stressing right now to only donate to the Red Cross. Otherwise...things can get "lost in the shuffle" like boriel said.
I know that if you contact an organization, you can set up a special donating sector.
I.E. - For Ralph Fiennes' birthday, a bunch of people sent in money to the charity he supports and made sure it went for "The Ralph Fiennes Birthday Project." Someone had called the organizer about it, and she was able to give him the message about his fans and he in turn, sent a message back to them.

well, i know you're right but...sometimes i just wish i could do something that really helped them.
it's so hard to know that millions of children starve to death every single day while you're sitting at home with all the comfort, surrounded by your family...
i truily wished that i could change the world for a day*

thank you for your reply:)
