Song of the Day

Song du jour...

"Is That All?" from October

Lame-o lyric-os.  (That should be a kid's cereal.)  But let me explain.  U2 were still stretching and flexing their musical muscles, many would argue they still are today.  The art of song-writing works best for Bono usually when started with a mood or ambience.  If not that, then some lyrics.  But good gosh, what was he thinking, starting with THE TITLE?  October could have very well ended with "Scarlet," but golly we have this clever title for a closing track.
Basically it's a musing of Bono's frustration with creative failure, or at least what was failure in his mind.  Is that all you want from me?  Unfortunately, he couldn't come up with much else for lines.
The guitar riff is stolen from "Cry" which didn't make the cut on the album, but was later infused with "Electric Co." for live performances.  Larry's drums are starting to catch fire, in prepartion for the War album.
I like how the song starts, but then again I like Cry/Electric Co. .  By the end of the song, I'm ready to ask Bono "Is that all... 'cause I'd really like to move on?"

Is That All?

Oh to sing this song makes me angry
I'm not angry with you.
Is that all?
Is that all?
Is that all?

Oh to sing this song makes me happy
I'm not happy with you.
Oh to sing this song makes me dance.
Is that all?
Is that all?
Is that all?

Is that all?
Is that all?
Is that all?
Is that all you want from me?
