Song of the Day @ 04:22 pm

zoostation:
I'm currently feelin: worried worried
I'm currently hearin: HMTMKMKM (you should all learn that anagram!)

Today's Selection is...

from the Batman Forever soundtrack.

This, being my last week, is going to just be songs I really happen to enjoy, so they are all repeats. Sorry?
Anyways, I've loved this song from the moment I really heard it. I saw really because I'm sure than when I saw Batman Forever in the theater, I really didn't care about it. Or the 100 times I've watched it at home either. But the moment I popped in The Best of U2: 1990 - 2000 and heard it, it was love at first sight. Sound? Note?
Even when all their other songs were skippable to me at the time, this song wasn't. I'd hit repeat and fall in love all over again with that voice I now know as MacPhisto's.
The music is just amazing. The overdrive of the guitar, the backing strings, Larry's drumming, the clapping. I'm such a sucker for rhythmic clapping. I'm Cuban, sue me.
Aside from the music, I love the lyrics when taken out of the whole song. I don't see how they really fit altogether as a piece, but with Bono!gems like:
They don't know what you're doing
Babe, it must be art

and
Believing in yourself
Almost as much as you doubt

How can you go wrong?

// Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me

You don't know how you took it
You just know what you got
Oh lordy you've been stealing
From the thieves and you got caught
In the headlights
Of a stretch car
You're a star

Dressing like your sister
Living like a tart
They don't know what you're doing
Babe, it must be art
You're a headache
In a suitcase
You're a star

Oh no, don't be shy
You don't have to go blind
Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me

You don't know how you got here
You just know you want out
Believing in yourself
Almost as much as you doubt
You're a big smash
You wear it like a rash
Star
(I wanna take it)

Oh no, don't be shy
It takes a crowd to cry
Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me
Yeah...
Hey!

They want you to be Jesus
They'll go down on one knee
But they'll want their money back
If you're alive at thirty-three
And you're turning tricks
With your crucifix
You're a star

(Oh child)

Of course you're not shy
You don't have to deny it love
Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me

Amusing anecdote: Browsing through my dad's cd collection, I found this. Oh Bono, you crafty little Irishman.

Ehh...sadly, I'm under a hurricane warning right now, but I'll make sure that my last week goes by unhindered. I'll get onebadkite to post my thoughts for me if necessary. That makes sense. Sure it does.
Wish me luck. I love my air conditioning and don't want it to stop! :/

I adore this song. My friend Skitz and I term it 'the shag song' because in our opinion it's one of the sexiest songs U2 has ever written, and when we were discussing it one night I said to her "You could just shag it, couldn't you?" Which made her laugh, so there we go.

I love the music. What a great tune! When it comes on it just OOZES this sexy, sensual sound. Bono's lyrics, to me, are a clever, caustic take on celebrity. My particular faves in amongst the heap of gems are

They want you to be Jesus
They'll go down on one knee
But they'll want their money back
If you're alive at thirty-three
And you're turning tricks
With your crucifix
You're a star

That's brilliant, isn't it? It's so intelligent.

And then if that wasn't enough, you have the entirely hot and delicious Bono sounds at the end which are great but let me tell you, when you listen to it on the bus, you might regret it. ;)

zoostation, I'm sad this is your last week, and I hope you're okay hurricane-wise. :)

Okay, first of all. The Bonogasm at the end has made this one of the songs I can not listen to while in bed trying to sleep.
I tend to say "I love this song" about almost every U2 song, but this is one where I really mean it. Bonoffee is right, it oozes of sex. Bono is singing in his sexy voice, the lyrics are great, the music has this... I dunno, nervous energy to it. And of couse the Bonogasm. Mmm.

You know, I remember this song and video from when I was young. I liked it then, though I really didn't pay that much attention to it. And now... I still like it, but I'd prefer to listen to the song than watch the video (...I just almost typed "I'd prefer to read the book than watch the movie", dunno where that came from). I think it's because even though I love animated!U2, the movie dialogue cut into it ruins the song, and I'd rather see more of Bono and less of Val Kilmer running around =P

My custom title on the forum I moderate is "a headache in a suitcase" ;P

I love this song, but it is completely unrelated to the Batman soundtrack, which is kind of funny, in a way. The video also seems unrelated, although I like it.The main theme deals with the cost of celebrity, which means it would have been a great song for the POP album.

Unless, of course, I am missing something.

My favorite lyrics:

They want you to be Jesus
They'll go down on one knee
But they'll want their money back
If you're alive at thirty-three
And you're turning tricks
With your crucifix
You're a star

they wrote it for Zooropa originally, so that theme makes good sense. They just stuffed it off on Batman to find a home, I think..

Good luck with that hurricane! I hope it turns out to be a non-event.

This song is the SHIT, man. It's so awesome. The lyrics are among the best Bono's ever written. I love the "Hey!" in the middle.

I was gonna try and go into more detail than I did first time around, but dammit, the whole song is so amazing you just can't break it down into individual highlights.

I do love the "Hey! ...oh... oh!" in the middle though, and my very favourite moment is probably the utterly droolworthy "Ohhhh, child...." before the final chorus. Mmmmmfalsetto. It so kicks arse live as well. I'd die of ecstasy if they suddenly bust this one out during a show I was at!
