Hello Hello!!

Track-by-track comparisons: #6 @ 08:22 pm

canadanne:
I'm currently feelin: frustrated frustrated

Yesterday's poll was pretty close. Running To Stand Still came out on top, but City Of Blinding Lights, WGRYWH and Stay weren't far behind. Wild Horses did a little better than I expected, actually. I also thought Out Of Control and Drowning Man would have received more votes than they did! Can't believe not a single person voted for Fire or All Along The Watchtower, those are cool tracks...

Today's poll is all about six, six, six.

Poll #580657 Best track #6

What's the best track #6 on a U2 album?

Stories For Boys
6(3.1%)
Tomorrow
13(6.8%)
The Refugee
5(2.6%)
4th Of July
0(0.0%)
Red Hill Mining Town
30(15.7%)
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - gospel version
18(9.4%)
So Cruel
32(16.8%)
Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car
12(6.3%)
Last Night On Earth
21(11.0%)
In A Little While
40(20.9%)
All Because Of You
14(7.3%)
.....NOOOOOOO!  I absolutely adore three of these, how the hell am I supposed to choose between them?!

Gah, a thousand times gah. Scanning down the list I thought "Oh easy, Red Hill Mining Town". Then I saw that So Cruel was in there as well. Oh cack. THEN I saw that they also had to compete with In A Little While, one of my very favourite 21st century tracks!

AAARRGGHHH!

They're all so supremely gorgeous that I found it impossible to reason my way out of this dilemma. So Achtung Baby is having to pull rank as my favourite album, thus giving my vote to So Cruel. But it's all so unfairrrrr....

Red Hill Mining Town has AMAZING vocals, hands down... so this one was probably the easiest one for me to pick out of the other 5 surveys. Gott, I WISH I could've seen that one live. Ah well.

This is exactly what I was going to say. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song. It's goodness gets me every time. Bono's vocals - ah - all of it...just so good.

It's a bit whiny, IMHO. I'm with ya on that.

Hmm...for me this was the weakest batch of songs yet. Nevertheless, I had trouble choosing between DGPFYCC (A-HA SHA-LA anyone?), and In a Little While.

In the end, I had to give the nod to Little While...I dunno, it's just sublime.

I'm one of the few Pop worshippers, so this wasn't a hard one for me (finally!). "Last Night On Earth", easy.

ditto. "Last Night On Earth" was not only an easy pick, but a fantastic track.

Incidentally, do you have a plan for what happens when you get past track 10, and the number of albums that have tracks 11 and 12 dwindles dramatically? To say nothing of Rattle and Hum, which has, what, 17 tracks? I guess All I Want is You will fare pretty well. ;)

Personally, when all is said and done, there should be a poll on best last track on each album, irrespective of track number. Just thinking out loud here. :)

I'm planning to run the polls for as long as there's more than one choice!

I seem to recall someone did a "best closing track" poll not too long ago...

"In a Little While" got my vote, after much deliberating. It's such a beautiful song, and definitely my favourite on ATYCLB.

Why are so many people voting for In A Little While? :|

 Red Hill Mining Town, the single that should have been.

'Why are so many people voting for In A Little While?'

Because people, for some incomprehensible reason, like U2's worst song.

I think this is the easiest one so far. For me, it was a three-way tussle between Tomorrow, Red Hill Mining Town, and Last Night On Earth, and while RHMT is soaring and LNOE rocks, it wasn't hard for me to choose Tomorrow, an overlooked classic. I must say that some days, I would've included The Refugee and made it a four-way tussle: the song gets bashed a lot but I think it's a pretty rocking early political number, and come on, singing along to "WOH-WOAH!" is fun.

RHMT is the bomb, fo' shizzle, but I just had to pick DGPFYCC.

Today's poll is all about six, six, six.

Today's poll is about THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST?!?!?

And i'm sorry, but how can THE REFUGEE have votes? That song's down there with Red Light and A Man and a Woman, in my book. It's one of those few U2 songs i can't help but say, "Guys, what the hell were you thinking?" Just my opinion, of course.
