Hello Hello!!

Track-by-track comparisons: #11 @ 08:32 pm

canadanne:
Ultra Violet (Light My Way) triumphed in yesterday's poll, seeing off strong competition from "40" and Angel Of Harlem. I'm *really* surprised Exit didn't do better, I thought this vote would be quite evenly spread out over several more tracks.

We're down to eight albums today, and it's time to vote on Amy's favourite number... 11!

Poll #583864 Best track #11

What's the best track #11 on a U2 album?

Shadows And Tall Trees
10(5.0%)
Is That All?
1(0.5%)
Mothers Of The Disappeared
20(10.0%)
Love Rescue Me
8(4.0%)
Acrobat
82(40.8%)
Please
41(20.4%)
Grace
11(5.5%)
Yahweh
28(13.9%)

Ooooh. My favourites from this list are Love Rescue Me, Acrobat, Please and Yahweh. It's gotta be out of Acrobat and Yahweh, I think.... and they're both excellent, but I think Acrobat has the edge. The climax of Yahweh is glorious though....

Ooh, this is the hardest one yet. MOTD, Acrobat, or Please... AAHH. Okay. Please because I am mad at AB for sweeping everything. >:(

Hardest poll for me, I think. Acrobat and Please are such amazing songs.

I went with Please though because it's Bono's strongest song lyrically. Ever.

I was just going to say the exact same thing.

I think Please and Wake Up Dead Man are the pinnacle of Bono's songwriting.

Yahweh has also become a powerful song for me, but Please gives me shivers.

I'm going to have to go with Acrobat. There's just so much angstyness in it, and I love the lyrics. Particularly "And you can dream, so dream out loud, and don't let the bastards grind you down". I mean, to the point where I stuck it across my bedroom wall and stayed up until 4 AM the other night making a new LJ layout designed around the song (go look at it! =D)

*tears hair out*

I had to go with Mothers, because it always makes me cry. Acrobat was initially my knee-jerk first choice (since I'm an AB girl at heart,) but Mothers just *gets* to me.

Okay...this one is actually really tough for me. Unlike most of the other tracks, ALL of these songs are pretty damn good songs. I don't think i'd be questioning the tastes of members of this community no matter what wins this time around (as opposed to the landslide of Mysterious Ways and PRIDE LIVE). Okay, maybe Grace isn't quite as good as the others, hehe...but it's still a good listen every now and again.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Acrobat. U2's best song of the nineties.

I had to go with "Mothers of the Disappeared" because I feel it gets overlooked. I had a feeling "Please" and "Acrobat" would get the most votes and I was right. I'm happy "Shadows and Tall Trees" got some as well.

Acro-feckin-bat! I almost went with Please...but hearing The Edge's solo in my mind changed that.

I chose Yahweh.

I feel I must justify my choice because I feel really guilty about it, lol. I am, as I'm sure y'all know by now, in love with AB and Acrobat is an incredible song. Normally I'd choose it. Normally, actually, I wouldn't think I'd ever choose Yahweh - in the beginning I wasn't its greatest fan. But live, it has been immense, gorgeous and uplifting, and last night when I felt really bad, I put it on and I cried, but it made me feel better in the end. The lyrics are so beautiful, I love most of them so much, especially 'take these hands, don't make a fist.' That's just gorgeous. Sigh.

Yeah. So. I had to choose it, because it's becoming a little lifesaver. But I still adore Acrobat like woah.

I feel slightly guilty for *not* choosing Yahweh, so I'm glad you've balanced out my vote. ;)  And I know what you mean about Achtung Betrayal Guilt, I've done that a few times in this poll series and I feel like such a bad fan!

The guilt is horrible! I have to pet my AB or something to make myself feel better. ;) Yes, I am odd!

Wow... Mothers, Please, and Yahweh! How is one to DECIDE?!

Acrobat's good, but lyrically it's a bit stale for me... It's my favorite venting song ever (My fiance and I always scream the "...and don't let the bastards grind you down" line as loud as we can), but Mothers of the Disappeared, Please, and Yahweh are so beautiful musically.

I'm going with Yahweh because of the intense imagery and absolute beauty of the vocals and the depths of the logical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the poetic lyrics. They are not seperate, but united in this wonderful masterpiece.

...or so I think, anyway. =)

There is certainly not a bad choice in this particular poll.

As much as I LOVE some of these songs, it's Acrobat for me. No question. The song works like nothing I've ever heard before.

If only they would play it live...

Yahweh.

I feel like I've been severely neglecting albums other than Bomb in these polls. The only albums I know completely inside and out are War, AB, ATYCLB, and HTDAAB. No worries, I'll catch on eventually!

Anyway, back to Yahweh. I had this down originally as one of my least favorite U2 songs of all time. But it grew on me pretty quickly. As I believe somebody mentioned before, the imagery is beautiful. The vocals are beautiful. The lyrics are beautiful. The climax is beautiful. Everything about this song just makes me feel a connection to *something*. I like that in a song. :)

I love "Acrobat", but "Yahweh" has such a personal significance to me; "Yahweh" gets it in the end.
