Get Ready To Get Dizzy

Vertigo 05 LIVE DVD, out mid November. ‘Vertigo 2005//U2 Live from Chicago’ will be released on November 14th. Here’s the scoop! Filmed at the United Center Chicago on 9th and 10th May this year by Hamish Hamilton, the Vertigo 2005 DVD brings Vertigo 05 tour to the small screen.

The DVD comes on two discs. The first comes with the full live show, directed by Hamish Hamilton who directed both of U2's previous million selling live DVDs . The second disc is full of bonus material including Beyond The Tour, an intimate behind the scenes documentary.

But it also comes with something unique to the Vertigo Tour – a startling 'surveillance cuts’ version of the Chicago show. Conceived and filmed by U2’s longtime Show Director Willie Williams, the footage uses four remote controlled black and white infra-red surveillance cameras. Trust us – it offers a totally different perspective on the show. (You might even be on it!)

So ‘what’s the tracklisting ?’ we hear you shout. OK, this is what it looks and sounds like:

Although I am excited for this to come out (mostly for the documentary), I really want them to make a DVD of the 10/17 Philly show cuz that was just fucking amazing...

Anyway, no real complaints - after all, I did get to see it live. :-)

There was a rumor about a DVD box set of old shows (ZooTV Sydney, 1983 Red Rocks, Mexico PopMart), but (surprise surprise) nothing has yet come of it.

The only two Vertigo shows that were properly filmed were Chicago and Milan. No idea what they're going to do with the Milan footage. (although if they're smart they'll release that show at least in Europe, since the Europeans will get the Chicago DVD and be like "WTF?" since it looks nothing like the European show)

Perhaps we get both... just like Slane and Boston. I'm not sure if Boston: Elevation is available on the other side of the pond, but they're both available in the US. Of course the Elevation setup didn't differ that much...

Elevation Live in Boston is available here in Europe, as well as -- of course -- Slane Castle.
But I have to admit, I saw various US concerts on dvd, and went to those here in Germany myself... there is a difference between European and US shows, and I'd really like to get a European Vertigo concert on dvd. The one in Milano is said to have been extraordinary... but then, which concerts of U2 aren't ;-)
I'm glad we get to see something from the tour at all :-)

Well, what I meant, was for the Elevation tour, both continents had the heart. Where as Vertigo shows, we have the elipse, and you guys had the two b-stages. Euro shows were outside, and North American ones inside; for both tours, as far as I know. Other than that, I dunno. Perhaps the setlists differed a lot, but there isn't TOO much of a difference, that I notice, in the Vertigo tour. Except that they opened with Vertigo a lot more on your side, while CoBL seems to be more frequent over here.

They filmed two of the Croke Park gigs I attended, as well. Don't know if they have plans for it but there was a lot of filming [boom and hand-cams] going on.

And the Chicago gigs they filmed were brilliant, though it's too bad they didn't get May 12th. When the cameras were turned off, the band really turned on!

I think Croke was just filmed for the band's own archives, whereas the Milan filming was a more elaborate production that would be suitable for some hypothetical release.

They filmed that one for release too. I imagine it'll be released sometime in the coming couple of years (like Slane).
