Hello Hello!!

I'm currently feelin: busy

Oh my. I am behind. I'm bad. The end of the semester is approaching, and I've been unintentionally slacking on the Song of the Day. Thankfully I remembered it before midnight my time, so here it is. Since this week I am going back to the Vertigo tour (woo!) I thought I'd select one song I'm absolutely looking forward to hearing, and one that I am hoping against hope for. So today's selection is

I put this behind a cut in case you haven't seen a setlist from this tour and are keeping spoiler free. If you are, I admire you. But please don't read! :) Sorry, but it's precautionary!

Now. Today's song of the day selection from me is Miss Sarajevo.

I am absolutely busting to hear this. I remember when I first discovered that this existed back when I was eating up every bit of new U2ness that I could in 1997. Bono? Pavarotti? Interesting. And so then I bought the single and fell in love with the thing, listening to the whole thing over and over. I must admit that I was very young when this was happening, so it caused me to do a little research on my own, and really only then did I appreciate this song. I think my reaction, after figuring out all the details, was "Wow. What an AMAZING point." "Is there a time for high street shopping?" Amaaaaazingly insightful. It blew my mind. I must admit that U2 is one of the reasons I realized I wanted to major in political science and do a lot of things. I'm forever thankful for that.

And now, I'm going to hear it live in less than a week? Are you KIDDING? Woo!

So enjoy the lyrics. Sorry I've been slack, things are going full speed here for the next couple of weeks until finals!

Is there a time for keeping your distance
A time to turn your eyes away
Is there a time for keeping your head down
For getting on with your day

Is there a time for kohl and lipstick
A time for cutting hair
Is there a time for high street shopping
To find the right dress to wear

Here she comes
Heads turn around
Here she comes
To take her crown

Is there a time to run for cover
A time for kiss and tell
Is there a time for different colours
Different names you find it hard to spell

Is there a time for first communion
A time for East 17
Is there a time to turn to Mecca
Is there time to be a beauty queen

Here she comes
Beauty plays the clown
Here she comes
Surreal in her crown

Dici che il fiume
Trova la via al mare
E come il fiume
Giungerai a me
Oltre i confini
E le terre assetate
Dici che come fiume
Come fiume...
L'amore giunger
E non so più pregare
E nell'amore non so più sperare
E quell'amore non so più aspettare

[Translation of the above]
It's said that a river
Finds the way to the sea
And like the river
You shall come to me
Beyond the borders
And the thirsty lands
You say that as a river
Like a river...
Love shall come
And I'm not able to pray anymore
And I cannot hope in love anymore
And I cannot wait for love anymore
[End of Translation]

Is there a time for tying ribbons
A time for Christmas trees
Is there a time for laying tables
And the night is set to freeze

Yeah, I pretty much died when they did this in Boston. Bono hitting those operatic notes brought me back though. *sigh*

I have to admit I didn't care for this song too much, until this past October. When I heard Bono sing the opera parts, I found a whole new appreciation for the band, the singer and the song.

This song is amazing, and I can't think of an other wordstoo describe it. If I try, I'm afraid I will butcher it.

This was one of the highlights fo the whole show, and Bono sang Pavaratti's part to perfect. my friend Erin and I just sat there gaping we were in such awe.

It will be worth the wait..absolutely beautiful.

I have to say, I was not overly excited to hear this song back in October. But once the opera part started, I just about died. My boyfriend was sighing too, but this was accompanied by an eye roll at my "googly" eyes. :)
