but to each his and her own.

So so true... but I can't see the U2 crowd down here being particularly receptive to Kanye's style. Eep.

Maybeee I shall be proven to be completely wrong. But I doubt it.

Luckily I got to see Keane. Kings of Leon were the most painful experience of my entire life. I can still feel that bass cutting through my body. *shudder*

I remember that when I went to the Elevation Tour, No Doubt, my other favorite band, opened up just a few mights before. Did anyone here see ND open up? How were they received at the show?

I saw No Doubt open for them at Staples in LA. I was very surprised that the crowd really wasn't into them at all, with them being from just down in Anaheim. Of course, it being Los Angeles, a slew of people were only at the concert to be seen. blech

I wasn't the hugest No Doubt fan, but I personally thought they rocked.

I really enjoyed Stereophonics when they opened up for Elevation. My sister went with me, and since then they are one of her favorite bands.

Kings of Leon were excrutiating to watch/hear...I cannot begin to describe the horror...wore earplugs the whole time, every time...blech. Damian Marley and his ensemble were most excellent. Not my favorite type of music but they were all excellent musicians and very enjoyable to watch/listen to. I am not really looking forward to Kanye myself on Saturday but has to be better then check, check one, check one two...aaaaaaaaahhhhh.

Well, Kanye did a show out here a few days ago and the reviewer said it was probably one of the best he's ever seen from a rapper. He didn't get into any of the cliched "Throw your hands in the air," "Everybody say hooooo" stuff and so on.

I disagree

Just b/c someone is a fan of "rock" doesn't mean that they can't be a fan of "R&B/rap" and that the two are mutually exclusive. Both these artists have powerful lyrics and good music, both with a bit of gospel bent (ok, U2 went through that phase at least, haha) and I'm not going to judge it too early. Mind you, I live in China so I won't be attending any of the shows *sob*

This is going to suck so much. To say that I am unimpressed and angry is to put it lightly. They might as well just put a chainsaw on stage and leave it running for forty-five minutes.

Suddenly, the Kings Of Leon don't seem so bad after all. Never thought that would be possible.

Rest assured that I will be wearing the biggest earplugs known to man.

Ah

That's kinda what I wanted to say. XD

Ok, so U2 might love him, and he might be popular, but I really really really don't think Australian U2 fans are going to take it. I have no time at all for his music. I don't CARE how 'different' he is, and how he's not your typical hip-hop artist. THe majority of U2 fans here will not like this One Bit.

Besides, I think a [good] Australian artist should have the chance to open. Boo, hiss.

I love Keane and I like the Killers, but I'd see Kanye over any of those other openers (except for maybe Snow Patrol) anyday. He's easily the best popular rapper out there.

I think many of you dismiss him as yet another ridiculous, trite rap artist, but you couldn't be further from the truth. Do you think U2 would just snatch any old rapper and put him on stage? Even if you don't like Kings of Leon, they aren't that bad outside of a live setting. And they certainly aren't a cookie cutter pop act.

Kanye is the only rapper I listen to, and for good reason. He's a GREAT ARTIST. Yes, I said it. :)

It kind of disgusts me to see how closed-minded people are to the opening bands... granted, Kings of Leon were awful, but Jesus, don't PLAN to boo them off stage! Give them a chance!

I'm going to the concert in Melbourne. my friend who got the ticket for me told me about Kanye today. i think it's cool. i quite like his music, but i agree, i don't know how many other U2 fans do. the good thing for me is that while Kanye West is touring Australia, his fans will be paying close to what the U2 concert costs, so i get to see them both. should be interesting, though.
