I've got a copy of U2 performing The Beatles "Rain" at the Feyernoord Stadium in Rotterdam 7/18/97, and at the end of the song, Bono says "Goodnight, and fuck off."
I was wondering if there was any particular reason he tells them all to fuck off?!

He said that at the end of the 7-2-97 Foxboro show during Rain.. I was standing there slightly confused as to why he said it... maybe it was part of his show if he did it again in Rotterdam..

During PopMart, Bono did that at a lot of concerts, including the one I was at (Foxboro,MA 7/2/97)...Why? Who knows. Maybe Bono was being sarcastic? Naw.. GRIN

I think it was the Leeds show (one I own that has Rain) where he does the same thing too. I've heard/read somewhere that it was meant as a response to George Harrison's comments about U2. I may be making that up but I do remember some sort of friction there.

I'm not too sure either ;o) But I know George was not really into modern music at the time. He thought it was too egocentric, and I believed he mentioned U2 at the time.

::I love both GH and U2 so am not siding with either - just posting!::
