I'm currently feelin: bored bored
I'm currently hearin: Lady With The Spinning Head

Lady With The Spinning Head (Extended Dance Mix)
from the EBTTRT single and Best Of 90-00 B-Sides

Slim pickin's for SotD these days.  Whereas volare seems to have this super special extra rare U2 as you've never seen them before stuff, I have.... albums and remixes, to work with (and nobody seems to like remixes). *shakes a fist* I must take up bootlegs, I tell ya.  Anyhoodle...

I think this one is the definition of B-side.  It's not quite good enough to be on an album, but too good to throw out the window.  You can tell where "The Fly" and some of "Ultraviolet" came from with this song.  Especially "The Fly," to me it sounds like it throughout.

The intro reminds me of marbles being dropped on a hard floor.  Not sure why, that's just the image it evokes, dropping glass (that bounces, not breaks) on something hard.  The riff is okay, I suppose, but Edge is kind enough to throw us a guitar solo.  Larry loves his cymbals, we all know that.  I just think the end takes way too long.  I know dance mixes are supposed to be long, but eh.  To it's credit, I like the synth-strings in the background as it outros.

Lady With The Spinning Head

Here she comes
Lady luck again
Figure of eight
Six and nine again

I... (I...)
I... (I...)
My lady with the spinning head

Whatever the deal (Whatever the deal)
She won't let me down
Wherever I go (Wherever I go)
She's always hangin' round

I... (I...)
I... (I...)
Got my lady with the spinning head

La la la, la la la, la la la, la la
Lady with the spinning head
La la la, la la la, la la la, la la
Lady with the spinning head

(Oh yeah, come on baby)

She's been gone
But I knew she'd be back
She's got the red
She put me in the black

I... (I...)
I... (I...)
Need the lady with the spinning head

I love that girl
She cure my blues
She's the one
In the travelling shoes
I'm on top
When she's around
She's my ticket
Out of town

La la la, la la la, la la la, la la
Lady with the spinning head
La la la, la la la, la la la, la la~
Lady with the spinning head
La la la, la la la, la la la, la la~
Lady with the spinning head
La la la, la la la, la la la, la la~
Lady with the spinning head

Here she comes
Lady luck again

Here she comes
Lady...

Figure of eight
Six and nine again
Six and nine again

You could even arms-above-your-head-wiggle dance to it, if you wanted. ;-)

I love love LOVE this song. I think of it as akin to a theme song for me since I suffered from some dizzy spells after being hit by a car.

I really want an icon for it, but I've never been able to think of some appropriate graphics to go along with it.

Maybe if you could get hold of a little clip of Morleigh twirling, that would fit rather well?  Especially with the whole temptation theme running through this and Mysterious Ways...

This remix, in my opinion, is the greatest sonic masterpiece U2 has ever created.
Bar none.

I much, much prefer the original UV1 mix.
Proper review coming sometime next year.

I think you all would like the non-dance version better then, that was on the One single.

I happen to love remixes stay_please, so you keep posting them.

This particular track stands out as one of my favorite remixes of a U2 song. It manages to maintain that element of U2ness, but put it in dance club setting. The rest of the Achtung Baby era mixes seem to lack that special something...

I love randomly singing this song to friends who don't know it. When I start going "La la la la la la la la la lady with the spinning head", they all go "WTF?!"

Also, I for one would not complain if some album tracks were redone again as SotDs. I tend to like talking about songs over and over again anyway.

I love remixes too, there are plenty of great ones that are worthy of their own SOTD posts!

So yeah, as I said further up, this particular remix isn't one of my favourites as I think it's vastly inferior to the original version from the One single (which is brilliant beyond description). I'll save my general LWTSH comments for whenever that version gets featured - for now I'll just comment on the bits that are unique to the dance mix. (I'll start by saying that I've never understood why this is labelled a "Dance Mix", when it doesn't bear any resemblance to a dance track at all!  It doesn't have the kind of pulsing beat that you get in, say, the Discotheque, EBTTRT or Mofo remixes... it's just a longer and slightly restructured version of the original song, which I don't consider to be particularly danceable. Odd, very odd!)

Well... I just think this version is kind of scrappily put together. The UV1 mix is a perfect neat little pop treat, whereas this one is rather drawn out, without actually adding anything of value. Plus it's harsher-sounding in places; I'm not sure the bits with the prominent bass and scratchy guitar really *work* in this song, it sounds better when it's all smooth and shiny. And then just as it sounds like it should be reaching its conclusion, it goes off on some musical tangent for another two minutes or so (with a synth section that's pleasant enough, but again, hardly appropriate for a so-called "dance mix"). I dunno. It's not that it's a terrible remix or anything, it just feels utterly pointless, when the original mix was "just right". I'm so disappointed that this is the version they chose to include on the Best Of - it's *so* not the one I'd use if I wanted to introduce someone to the glory of Lady With The Spinning Head.
