Drinking SOTD @ 06:11 am

inklingfair:
I'm currently feelin: silly silly
I'm currently hearin: Drunk!Larry

For the past few Sundays I've posted songs sung by the Edge and Adam Clayton. This time I'm giving the mic to Larry Mullen Jr., (partly because some director cut him off at the Grammies). I actually like his voice, and the way he sings this one, because I am a huge fan of drinking-songs.

Sent the song to gmail, but the original was from the Larry sound archive at echosphere.net.

So without further ado, from those glorious ZooTV days I bring you...

Dirty Old Town

[somewhat different from the The Pogues version]
I met my love by the gas works wall
I dreamed a dream by the old canal
I kissed my girl by the factory gates
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
I heard a siren from the docks
I saw a train set the night on fire
I smelled the spring on the smoky wind
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
Dirty old town

Thank you.

[Bono intros TTTYAATW around the end.]

From live in Verona Zooropa, I think. Transcribed it meself, so tell me if I got anything wrong.

Take a bow, Larry.

P.S. I've also uploaded "Endless Deep" from last week; not sure if it was done properly, so let me know if you encounter problems... thanks!

I love Larry's growly Irish voice. I try to imitate it and sing Dirty Old Town like an Irishman but it just sounds freaky because I'm an 18-year-old American girl. Alas.

LOL. I have a version from Rotterdam on a bootleg CD I picked up in Dublin... I think I listened to it once when I originally bought the CD, and never felt inclined to listen again. ;)  I can see why!!  It's certainly got comedy value, but I feel like I'd be missing the point if I tried to analyse it on a musical level. :D  Larry's super-growly, not entirely tuneful vocals are rather hilarious... I think Bono's job is safe!  (In fact, my bootleg also features Bono singing a verse from this song, over the outro of Running To Stand Still.)

Btw, isn't that Larry introducing TTTYAATW at the end?  It doesn't sound like Bono - too deep and the accent's too strongly Irish!

Haha... love Larry's growly voice, it suits his "FOAD" attitude.

Larry does the intro? *runs to listen again*
