Hello Hello!!

To buy or not to buy? @ 04:22 am

inklingfair:
I'm currently feelin: curious curious

I know a used bookstore near my village selling two U2 items:

1. Eamon Dunphy's (hardback) "Unforgettable Fire" for around $8, and

2. An UNCUT magazine with Bono on the cover as the Fly, "Hex, Drugs, and Rock 'n' Roll" - a special about U2's Zoo TV/ Achtung Baby years, around $3

Are they worth owning?

On 2: I haven't read the Bill Flanagan book yet, and I can't find it in any bookstore, that's why I was curious about this mag.

If you go to Borders (and probably any other chain bookstore) they can order a copy for you, or you can order it online.

I would - if I had a credit card...

Most bookstores here only have the new books (Killing Bono, Conversations, just the year 2000 up).

I happened to find the Flanagan book at Barnes & Noble on the shelf. You don't need a credit card for them to special order it for you either. =)

Well, yeah, most do only have the new ones, but I got my copy through Borders because they will order the book for you and if it doesn't get there in 7 days you get it free, and if it does, you don't pay until it arrives.

Where I am, there aren't any Borders or Barnes and Nobles... eBay, I guess would be the next resort.

I do recommend Dunphy's book. I picked it up when it first came out (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth yanno) and still enjoy it.

Of Course!

They are pieces of U2 history which is an incredible find for any hardcore fan... Really though, other than the obvious fan-based value, I don't know.

...and the first one sounds like a much better value for the money!

It does, doesn't it? Though I'd much rather have "the orange book" more than anything...

"The Unforgettable Fire" is a wonderful book and definitely worth owning. I'm not sure about the magazine but I guess it wouldn't hurt to snap up that one too. ^^

I actually really love that issue of Uncut. It's a very good magazine in general & had some good pictures...for $3, it's most certainly worth it.

Unforgettable Fire was really good. The early pix are adorable, too. Don't know about the magazine, though.

Unforgettable Fire is definitely worth a read, it's rather funny and interesting, *but* I highly recommend accompanying it with Neil McCormick's article (from... NME?) which clears up some of the MANY factual errors in the book.

(My little home town even gets a mention in that book, as Paul McGuinness apparently used to live here when he was a kid!)

IIRC, I absolutely adored the Uncut article, but I can't remember anything specific about it off the top of my head. Of course, I'm a crazed ZooTV girl so it's not surprising that it would appeal to me. And the cool-as-fuck cover image is surely worth the price alone, no?!

I remember reading that Neil McCormick article somewhere. Anyway, I have the "Killing Bono" book, so I don't think I'll have too many gripes about the factual errors, heehee. I'm after the pictures of hobo!Edge and the always gorgeous Adam in the Dunphy book.

I'm thinking of getting Uncut now. It won't be better than "the real thing" (i.e. Flanagan), but it'll have to do for now...
