This might be a dumb question, but why is the GOLD version of "Joshua Tree" so much more expensive? Are there special features? I mean obviously the music kicks ass, and of course no album has ever been greater before or since, but I see the gold version on eBay selling for literally hundreds of dollars.

First off, the gold version cds were made of gold and created with the Ultradisc system. These are no longer made which will make them that much more expensive on ebay.

The Gold Discs were re-issues of classic albums that were carefully remastered from the original, producing a better sound on higher-end audio equipment. They were also released in limited quantities, so they are fairly rare.

Here's an article on the Mobile Fidelity Gold Discs you might want to check out:

Is that the vinyl or the CD? If it's the vinyl it might just be because it's rare.

A few years ago I bought one each of these for The Joshua Tree and The Unforgettable Fire. I know they made one for War as well, and possibly October too. Not certain.

They do sound very nice, and if you remember that "Real Joshua Tree" album you loaned me a couple JT singles CDs in order to fully create that one disc, the Gold CD fixed the track index problem with Exit and One Tree Hill. I used the Gold CD for the album tracks on that disc.

That was a good idea. I just recently purchased a laptop; I need to figure out how to burn a CD on it.

Check that - October was not one of the albums this was done for.
