Song of the Day @ 11:08 am

volare:
I'm currently feelin: tired tired

Thanks all for your responses in last week's poll; this looks like it'll be fun.. ;)

I've decided on a Friday Flashback/Weekend Wayback theme for the time being.
For the next while I'll post tracks from the 1978 demo record; I've brought you Street Mission previously, on the heels of the tragically amusing video clip that recently surfaced.

Today's selection is: Trevor

Trevor's here, oh dear..... Trevor's here, forever

Trevor "Strongman" Rowan was a member of Lypton Village; you may be better acquainted with his brothers Derek and Peter. Derek Rowan is known to most U2 fans as Guggi, and young Peter's face is forever emblazoned on the War album (as well as Boy for everyone but the US market...) and several other U2 releases.
Trevor also played bass in the Virgin Prunes with Dik Evans and Gavin Friday. Is it about him? Inspired by him? Bono's been unclear about this in past interviews...

Listen for bits and pieces of other songs all over this one. Touch, for example.... Comment with the ones you can pick out!

'Kay, I wrote this last night!

Oo, hadn't heard this one before. Blimey, it practically *is* Touch, isn't it - it's like someone doing a drunken karaoke version of Touch, and randomly slurring about his mate Trevor all over the chorus, LMAO!! :D  (Which is especially amusing because there's just something naturally comical about the name Trevor... my housemates and I had a butterfly living with us for a few days, and we named that Trevor, for the sheer unbutterflylikeness of it. *g*)

I love this track, it's hilarious... the whole chorus is great ("Trevor seeeems, quite cleverrr!  Trevor liiiives, for-everrr!)", but I especially *adore* the way Bono sings "Tre-vor.... whatever!" in that kind of dismissive groan. That is just total excellence. :D  I don't think this song is pretending to be any sort of masterpiece, but for the pure enjoyment factor, it's one of the best things I've heard from baby U2!!

[Please note: I've had that chorus stuck in my head repeatedly throughout the day. :p  The only trouble is, this might have ruined Touch for me now, because I'm always gonna find myself wanting to sing Trevor over the top of it!]

Running thoughts: This is such a weird track. I wouldn't have recognized it as U2. Even Edge's guitar sounds different, dirty even.

...

What's that? Bono making some funny chicken and hiccuping sounds? And I can totally hear Adam's bass (dum-duum-dum?-DUM) = so cool! The Edge's background singing is so "Electric Co." :)

Is this one of the songs available in the "early demos" album from iTunes? I am so irritated that I can't buy those songs separately. :(
