New Bond theme? @ 08:00 pm

canadanne:
I'm currently feelin: curious curious

There's an article on Teletext today about U2 possibly doing the theme song for Casino Royale, which is news to me. It's not clear whether there's any truth to the story or if it's just the press getting the wrong end of the stick - I found a mention of it here...

Sounds mostly like speculation to me, like "well, U2 and Tina Turner did it before so maybe they'll do it again" in place of any actual evidence. I'm sure the producers would love to have U2 involved, but from those quotes it sounds more like wishful thinking than anything else.

It'd be cool if U2 performed it themselves this time though...I'm sure they'll be involved with a soundtrack or two before the next album, since that seems to be a pattern with them.

I think they can pull it off. U2 don't seem to be opposed to movie soundtracks--they contributed "Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me" for Batman Forever, and "The Hands that Built America" for Gangs of New York.

And don't forget about "Elevation" for Tomb Raider...and all the stuff they've done for Wim Wenders. I think it'd be cool to see them do it, as long as it's not too cheesy. :)

I've heard a couple other reputable sources talking about it. I don't know if anything is official either way yet..

Too lazy to read the article but Tina Turner has already been made somewhat official as the person to sing the theme song. But they could pull a whatever and write her a song...

Well, the article says that the press have latched onto the Tina Turner thing after the film's producer was "spectacularly misquoted". A journalist had asked her if U2 might be able to come up with something cool, and she replied: "Well, they're great. You may know that Bono wrote the song for 'Goldeneye' but they didn't perform it, Tina Turner did." Somehow the media have interpreted that as a hint that Tina Turner will be doing the new one as well?
