Tributes @ 12:49 am

stay_please:
I'm currently hearin: Edgeworker

A while back I bought the string tribute to U2.  I adored it, probably moreso because I used to play string instruments in school.  I've been searching for a good deal for the piano tribute, because I love me some piano music as well.  I think I shall finally give up and go purchase it on eBay shortly here.  But today I finally listened to the Dub tribute.  My iTunes classifies it as reggae.... but I dunno.  It's really interesting.  Different takes on U2.  And you figure with a dub tribute (which would be electronic), they'd pick songs like Numb, HMTMKMKM, anything off Zooropa, Discothque.  But no my friends, they cover Bad, ISHFWILF, and Please, as well... good stuff.  I think Please would have to be my favorite track.  And it tops it off with something called the "Edgeworker"... which I imagine is some sort of personal tribute to Edge, but I don't get it yet.  Anyone else heard this stuff??   Maybe I'll have to invest in the bluegrass tribute next. :-)

Track Listing:
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Bullet The Blue Sky
New Year's Day
Seconds
Bad
Please
Numb
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
Vertigo
Edgeworker

Hmm, and while searching around U2wanderer.org for your linkses, I notice the dub and piano tributes aren't even mentioned.  But there is a second string, and second bluegrass tribute. :-)

The bluegrass tribute is actually my favorite out of all the tributes. Interesting version streets. It's great to listen to when you're on a long drive on an open road.

I have a String version of Joshua Tree. Also the bluegrass tribute. I like them both..... I thought about buying the reggae dub cover album but decided not to. :)

It took me awhile to pick up the Dub tribute. Probably months of staring at it as the only 'different' kind of U2 release in my local mega-music-movie-store. I really should find some local little places.... get myself some singles and rarities and whatnot.

Contrary to popular belief, the grass here is not blue.

(This was a fairly pointless comment =P)

That's okay. The sun doesn't actually shine in my state, either. ;-)

Oh, I love bluegrass! I didn't even know that existed! Can you buy it as a CD? I SO would love that, lol!

The one I have is the orchestra one? I like that, I sing along and pretend to be Bono. ;)

The String Quartet’s rendition of ‘Desire’ was just plane bizarre, but I can go with the rest of it. Beware of playing ‘The Sweetest Thing’ close to a dog, because they will find it objectionable!

As for the Bluegrass Tribute, go for it! From a purist’s standpoint, it isn’t really bluegrass, because it comes with a drummer, but it works really well, especially where the dobro serves as the lead “vocals.” I'm not sure about volume 2, because I can't imagine how they could pull off Achtung Baby's Even Better Than The Real Thing. The 30 second sample of that one just doesn't sound right!
