Hello Hello!!

U2 to Collaborate with Green Day @ 07:16 pm

peachy_ewan_muf:
I'm currently feelin: cheerful cheerful
I'm currently hearin: Kickstart My Heart - Motley Crue

I don't know if any of you heard about this, but I read about it on a Green Day website.

The Saints Are Coming
As promised, we are very proud to unveil the big news we've hinted at. In the coming weeks, we'll be going into the studio with U2 to record a cover of the song "The Saints Are Coming," which was originally recorded by Scottish punk band, The Skids. We were asked by U2 to record the song with them to benefit Music Rising (www.musicrising.org), an organization that replaces instruments musicians lost in Hurricane Katrina's wake. One year later, the devastation is still fresh in our minds, and we'd like to keep it in yours. New Orleans has always been a special city to us, being a hotbed of music and creativity, and it's hard to believe parts of the gulf region still remain devastated. We feel that it's important to continue to raise awareness.

I, myself, am pretty excited. Most Green Day fans seem EXTREMELY dissapointed. What do you all think?

Different styles or something. Most hate U2, like the repliers here who hate Green Day. I honestly can't see why it's a bad thing. . .

I'm not a Green Day fan. But I'll be interested in this, being a Skids fan. There was talk of U2 doing a Big Country track a wee while back, this sure is the next best thing.

Will be good to see this once great punk band get some long overdue recognition. Great cause too!

The reactions here are hilarious. The two bands actually have a great deal in common and a lot of respect for one another.

If this were Green Day 10 years ago, I'd be less freaked out by this.

But then again, I'll probably end up liking it.

Meh. Cool that it goes to a good cause, but, seriously? Green Day are so boring. They've been making the same album for 15 years. I don't know why U2 would even want to work with them.

The ignorance of this statement makes me laugh.

First Mary J. Blige, and now this? Wow, U2 really, really stinks nowadays. Green Day has to be one of the worst bands I've ever heard; their pseudo-punk pop shit should be fired into the sun. What a pathetic, lame excuse for a band, and it speaks volumes about U2 that they actually gave the invitation to Green Day!

To think that a touch over a decade ago, U2 had just recorded the artistic Passengers masterpiece with Brian Eno, and now look at where they are. How times change. What next, U2 featuring 50 Cent?

I love Green Day, American Idiot is one of the greatest collections of songs I have ever heard. It will go down as one of their greatest albums, it'll just take 10 years after they've broken up for people to get over their Dookie nostalgia trips.

Sonically, U2 and Green Day are from different planets, but spiritually they're in the same damn boat. I'm suprised this hasn't happened sooner.

This could be very cool.

The amount of stupidity coming from some fans of each band shows how little they really understand.

Instead of seeing the bigger picture and what U2 and Green Day are trying to accomplish with this, all they can do is act like petty jerks and band-bash.

Pathetic.
