Well, I certainly wasn't expecting you to pick this one!  I have to say I never listen to this remix - I adore the first two tracks on that single (the Sexy Dub Mix has got to be featured one day!), but the Apollo 440 mixes just do my head in. I'll give it another spin, though...

Hmm - I dunno if it sounds better through headphones or if it's just that I'm paying more attention, but I must admit this isn't as bad as I remember it being. I think my main objection was that I didn't like the intro, with that screechy distorted guitar repeated ad infinitum (followed by an equally discordant section set to the tune of the chorus) - and when you eventually got past that, the rest of the track wasn't much more than an inferior version of the original. It lacks the joyful danceability of the Oakenfold & Osborne remixes, so I've always found it a bit pointless.

Still, there is stuff to like about it, now that I listen again. The first "Even better than the real thing" and subsequent pause is good, and the little zappy noises are quite fun. I also like the way they've treated the "Take me higher" section, really isolating the vocals - and the bit immediately after it, before the screechy guitar comes in again, is awesome. Plus those high ooh-ooh-ooh's (which I'd never noticed before) are wonderful. I think the remix outstays its welcome, though - it feels like it's drawing to a close when they suddenly go off into "We're free to fly the crimson sky" for a second time, and it all starts to get a bit boring. I'd probably enjoy this track a lot more if it was trimmed down a bit here and there.

Sorry for not leaving a more positive comment on this occasion, but it's great to see you posting one of these - you should do it more often! :)

Interesting; I see it from the other side of the coin. It's a dance remix, without being too dancey. For me it takes the best of the song, and morphs it into something that sits somewhere in the middle of the album to dance mix spectrum. It's been some time since I've heard the Oakenfold mix (gasp! and shock!), so I shall have to give that one a listen and compare it.

I LOVE that bit.

I definitely see what you're saying there, and while my tendency would be to agree in such a case, I quickly recall some "Lemon" mixes that far-exceed its welcomed shelf life. While I definitely agree that this mix would qualify as one of those, I don't particularly see it as a major offender.

Sorry for not leaving a more positive comment on this occasion,

No need to apologize! It was great to see an opposing argument for this mix. If we all liked the same tracks for the same reason, there'd be no need for this forum. ;)

I definitely don't want to steal your thunder, as my obvious preference would be reviewing the remixes; I think I'll stick to the occasional guest appearances. :) Anytime you need a fill-in, just give me a holler.

True - I never really imagined this remix would come up for discussion at all, but I'm glad it did!

Well, hey, it's not really my thunder to steal... there used to be SOTD posters for every day of the week, after all, and I just seem to be the only one left standing!  I for one would welcome other opinions, even if it's not a regular thing, so do feel free to post anytime that inspiration strikes you. As long as it's not on a Sunday; those are mine. ;p  I will certainly let you know whenever I've got a slot that needs filling, though... (minds *out* of the gutter, people!!)

Btw, you may be interested in this info that runaground has now posted in the DGPFYCC thread. :)

Well I'm participating in NaNoWriMo next month, so maybe I'll try a regular gig in December.

I gave it read. I respectfully stand corrected. ;)
